I just had to replace a 9 year old BOL Amana dishwasher which was noisy, but otherwise a good machine and cleaned well. I especially liked being able to use the quick cycle for ordinary loads. That cycle worked well and didn't take 2-4 hours to complete. I replaced it with a Whirlpool WDF341PAPM. It hasn't been delivered yet, but I'm hoping it will work as well as the Amana since both are made by Whirlpool. The new one has a noise rating of 57db. I know that is not very quiet, but I don't care about the noise. It will be installed in a basement kitchen and the Amana was definitely not a quiet machine. Any comments?

Global Wash design? It has filters so that's a good sign. It's not the Micro-filtration Wash System which is notorious for having problems, requiring removal from the cabinet and tearing the machine completely apart to fix.

New basic whirlpool dishwasher

These are probably the best dishwasher in the lower priced field for sure easy to install and repair. I agree that a dishwasher doesn’t need to be silent. In fact the drive for silence is actually caused a lot of damage to the reliability of dishwashers and I like hearing the machine work anyway.

Curious, what happened to your other dishwasher and just nine years?

reason for replacement

I didn't replace it because it was noisy. Like others, I don't mind the noise. In fact, I find it soothing. Reminds me of childhood kitchen noises. LOL. I replaced it because of rusting racks, electrical noises (loud humming) and partly because I wanted stainless steel instead of white. I know stainless does not mean "better", it's just that the other appliances in this kitchen are stainless.

My point voyager from 2005 was replaced in 2014. I remember one day I was running it in the kitchen and I it was making this HORRIBLE SCREECHING sound and I could smell something burning. I stopped it, hit cancel drain praying it would drain the water. That's when I got my new maytag which has lasted longer than that one... I honestly don't know what failed on it. I know I'm the only one who EVER touches the dishwasher and I'm always super careful about loading, things dropping in...and I'm pretty sure there wasn't anything that could be caught in the grinder or whatever. I mean, it's possible but I just don't think that's what it was...

I don't mind the noise either, but this Maytag is much quiter than the point voyager, but is probably noisy by today's standards... I mean, you can hear it, but it's not LOUD... It's like a soft distant sound.

I don't know anything about this dishwasher other than it's got a plastic tub and is made by Whirlpool. I'd say it will be fine HOPEFULLY. A lot of folks don't want plastic tubs with the new shiny stainless steel.. but really when you think about it, they were always plastic before.

I was reading some of the reviews and as usual, some bad ones... but that's the case with everything it seems. Let us know how you like it.

I would have went with Whirlpool but at the time when I went to get a new machine, the GE was readily accessible while the Whirlpool portable I would have had to wait over a month because of supply issues due to COVID.

I'm glad I did get the GE portable now as it was about $300 cheaper and had the SS interior and I heard it was a good performing machine.

It's not a loud machine but you could hear the spray. Both arms run at the same time and that spray sounds forceful.

@cehalstead - If the racks rust again, you should be able to find nylon-covered equivalents on eBay for less than a new dishwasher since they've used that same rack design for eons. The nylon will last longer.

And you're not pre-rinsing your dishes, right? If you do and then use a normal amount of detergent, it will eat the racks and cause the same problem. Even moreso with a non-nylon coating.
