Hi everyone, I thought I would just take a minute and say that I am no longer going to be at school this coming fall. I turned in my keys today and after 35 years, it's time to be finished. I told the kids that I have been going to school since 1954 and am finally graduated. They got a kick out of that. Off to England in Sept. ABC-O-Matic (Gary)

Congratulations!!!

I retired last year after 30 years and don't regret it a bit. We did make the big move last fall but other than that I'm doing absolutely nothing at the moment and loving it. I putter round the yard, sit out front every morning reading the paper, nap whenever I want, stay up late if I want. It's glorious. The oddest thing happened the other day I was sitting there having my coffee early in the morning out front and I had this quick "moment" where I almost panicked thinking "Oh I'm gonna be late for work".. so weird. As my retired cousin says, give it a few months till that protestant work ethic disappears LOL Eventually I'm going to go find something part time to do, trouble is most part time jobs are something like 30-35 hrs/week.. that's almost full time LOL no thanks. .

BTW just today we got an invite to our new neighbors across the street to celebrate her retirement of 35 years. She's currently the principal of a local elementary. And my cousin in Birmingham UK, also a teacher is retiring as well end of this term...

Jesus Christ, Gary

jesus f'ing Christ I just got home from a wild party of loving amazing teachers who absolutely live for their students-- we had a freakin' ball. I had no idea you were a teacher. Halleluia-- we who love it are the salt of the earth; there is nothing better.

What do you teach???? I'm sure the loss of your presence in the classroom will be tremendous. All these months I've been reading you, never knowing you were a teacher. Holy feces; it's blowing my mind.

What wonderful thing did you do???

With enormous love, empathy, and respect,

Mike

For me it's Senior English.

I just can't get over this man, Man! Why did you keep such a wonderful thing a secret.

And you never bashed our work or our students like that fucking neo-Nazi loves to do. GOOD FOR YOU.

Hi abcomatic

Congratulations!!
Where is Bradford IL, is it anywhere near Lockport/Romeoville area? I did senior year class of 82 at Romeoville HS in IL as an exchange student. one of my favourite teachers ever was at that school, my Spanish teacher, Mr Garcia. What a caring and dedicated man! He personally took me in to Chicago to see the museum, the Picasso sculptures and other sights including lunch at a well known "Chicago Pizza" restaurant. Another time he organised our Spanish class to all take me to a Cubs game at Wrigley Field, as I had never been to the baseball. What memories I have of that year!

Anyway all the best and congrats on your achievement.

Chris.

Thanks for all of the kind words of encouragement. Chris, Bradford is about 120 miles southwest of Romeoville. I did my student teaching at Joliet East in 1971.
Mike:"How you doin?" lol I have taught a lot of different things such as: Vocal music, English, speech, Psy, music appreciation, Gothic Horror, Chapter 1 reading and guidance.
Off to England this fall. Gary

Congratulations!
I envy you sooo much - working isn't anymore what it used to be here...it's soooooo boring and only stressing, exhausting and frustrating nowadays...

Re: Congratulations , Gary ABC-O-Matic:

On your Career of Teaching and your longevity as well. Enjoy your start of the new life being Retired and don't forget {not to set your Alarm Clock} although we all do seem to have our Enternal Alarm Clock that will no doubt Wake us no matter how much we would like to Sleep in...

"BTW" My Father {Rest in Peace} worked for 36-years for the State of Calif, with the same Boss and Secretary and they originally started the Office, when it was established. My Father was a Land Agent. He went all over Calif, inspecting Property for the State to purchase for Buildings, Water Ways, Parks, etc. One time my Mother was taking my Father to the Airport for one of his Trips to Los Angeles and on the way, my Mother asked him if he had his Ticket's and he checked in his Pockets and didn't have them. They had to turn around and go back home, to get the Tickets. This was naturally quite some time ago, way before "Ticket-Less" Tickets.

Peace, Great Times and Enjoy Retirement, Steve

Awe Gary, I am so glad for you!

My grandfather did it for 38 years for a High School and was principal in the last 5 years.

Good Luck and enjoy your time

Steve

Gary I wish you the very best in this new chapter of your life. I know that you are going to love it. I "graduated" myself after teaching for 34 years and have been having a ball!

Congrats Gary!

I wish you all the best in retirement, and maybe we'll see you soon?

We moved more Maytags this past weekend, I was remembering the day we brought my A608 home!

My BF Michael lives in Joliet, in the Cathedral area. I pass by Romeoville HS on my way to his house!

Gary that is just wonderful, I can't tell you how happy I am for you and how jealous I am for me. :)

Enjoy, I firmly believe that life begins at retirement.

Good for you Gary! Hope retirement years are the best for you.
I have 12 more years before I can retire and I'm actually looking forward to it, I'm 48 now. My, how our society and people have changed since I started working in 1979. People can be so rude and mean. No, I wont miss it.
