So summer of 2014 I got my Maytag dishwasher (which I love).. Lately I've noticed I've been having to fill the rinse aid dispenser more than usual. I noticed that it's running out of the dispenser hole (not the cap) and it's intermittent... My last whirlpool dishwasher did the SAME thing about the same age...I remember I stopped using rinse aid for about a year...then just randomly I tried using it again and it was no longer leaking...Guess I will stop using rinse aid. Oh well

Mark, both my Kenmore Elites did this at about 5 years. I hope the Bosch fares much better.

I doubt you saw the thread asking you to email me at the email address in my profile. I'd appreciate if you would. Thannks Bob

Ok I must have missed that one...I sent you an email

I noticed this detergent rinse aid and detergent dispenser were mostly the same in my 2005 whirlpool and my 2014 Maytag...but it looks like they've completely redesigned them now...

Thankfully I can live without rinse aid... it just annoys me with things like this happen.

If the rinse aid in the dispenser has already almost run itself out, try just topping up the dispenser with water. That might neutralise the problem.

Then next time it requires refilling, try diluting the rinse aid with cold water, 50:50. It's probably easier to do it in a half-empty rinse aid bottle, than trying to judge by in-dispenser level.

I had similar problems with my Bosch, and with my mother's Bosch. The rinse aid concentration seems to allow the dispenser plunger neoprene rubber seals to become porous and weep over time. So much so, that filled on a weekly basis, the rinse aid was out before the week was up! There were streaks right down the door and the cutlery felt very sticky. Horrible.

Since the dilution, the dispensers have behaved normally.

OK... I will try that...I'm just going to fill it with distilled water, nothing else..
When I was googling I found an OLD post I made when this same thing happened to my last dishwasher...Literally the same thing at the same time.

Hmm.. Maytag.. I have a (much older, 1997 I believe) Maytag portable and it had leaked rinse aid between the door panels, which leaked down on the wires and turned them to mush, which eventually shorted out. I had a parts machine with a good wiring harness (pretty much every wire coming out the bottom of the door had turned to mush) which I swapped the door and wiring harness with, and it has been working beautifully for several months. We have soft water so I don't need rinse aid anyway.

They have redesigned them since I bought mine...on the new ones it looks like this long skinny cap for the rinse aid side that has a rubber seal...In fact, from looking it looks very similar on a lot of the brands....

Remember those rinse aid solid baskets that you could hang on the rack and they would last a long time? FORGET about those...With these new dishwashers, the solid is reduced to almost nothing after only a couple of loads....

so I filled rinse aid with distilled water - it mixed with that little was in there...still blue liquid showing inside...Have done 2 loads...some did leak out as I could see signs of where it had leaked out and dried...but then it stopped...then started again....did another load, now it's shows about 25% full but I've seen no signs of any leaking the past 2 days...It's funny, the rinse aid that mixed with the distilled water still worked.. I couldn't tell that I hadn't used rinse aid in either load....I guess diluting the rinse aid isn't noticeable at all.. Save $$$$

Our point voyager Maytag from 2009 had continued issues with the soap and rinse aid dispenser, you are not alone. I really loved that machine but man they really tripped that machine up with the control board failures and the cheap rinse aid and detergent cup mechanism. You may have to replace the dispenser entirely if the above tips don’t work, we were gonna order a new one for ours but then the control board started to act erratic and we decided it was best to replace it because we had already replaced the control board once. I’m surprised your dishwasher isn’t oversudsing with the amount of premature rinse aid being released.

Least it’s not the new sliding whirlpool dispensers, my goodness those are so cheap. Rinse aid half seems to be fine but will leak when it’s full but as far as I know every dishwasher does that. Tried using a cascade pac in it and during the pre rinse it had flooded the dispenser and it dissolved the tablet and it was oozing out of the dispenser Into the pre wash. Terrible terrible dispenser, and yes the seal is there and it’s just fine. Let us know what happens. Your machine is far too nice to replace this soon and it seems from your commentary over the years that this Maytag has been extremely reliable for you. Keep it! Wish I still had a point voyager.

And yes I LOVED THOSE JET DRY BASKETS! Those were the bomb. I bought a couple on eBay a few years ago since they just had to discontinue them.

I won't be replacing the dispenser at all if it's just the rinse aid I'm having problems with... the soap door works fine... always pops open.. No issues there... I can live without rinse aid. Yes I love this dishwasher...couple of months it will be 9 years old... I'll keep an eye out and experiment with the rinse aid, diluting it, filling it less than 1/2....and see what happens.

Yep - not excess bubbles from the rinse aid leaking....

The problem is if you dilute water based products with water you will also dilute the preservatives that protect perishable product ingredients from going off.
In a worst case scenario you might end up with a stinky mess in the dispenser from bacteria or mold growth.
I`d rather go without any rinse aid at all.

I shouldn't think that would be much of a problem, not at the rate modern machines gulp the stuff down. It's hardly in there long enough to turn to mush.

The problem with adding vinegar, is that the rinse aid might already have citric acid in its formulation. The combined acids might degrade the dispenser seals even quicker.

Recently our KitchenAid was leaking out of the machine. At first I was thinking a seal was worn or something simple. Today our technician came over and said that rinse aid was the problem. So we were given three options. Either we can keep using rinse aid but put a towel underneath the dishwasher, replace the part it was broken which we were quoted less than $200, or his recommendation was to start using Lemi Shine dishwasher booster. And it's funny because we've started using rinse aid less than a year ago when our last Cascade Complete jug was creating water spots on the glasses, we were just using the rest of the rinse aid up as we weren't planning on buying any more of them and we didn't wanted our last bottle to go to waste. But now I won't ever be using rinse aid again and just give the rest of it to somebody else.

For the past couple of years I've used a clip fan I bought specifically for the dishwasher....because I've never used dry cycle... I open the doors when done, give racks a shake and clip the fan so it blows into the dishwasher while I do other things.... I even did this before I stopped using rinse aid... I can tell zero difference... I don't miss the rinse aid at all... At first I was bummed when the rinse aid dispenser started leaking the last two dishwashers I've had... after about the 5 to 7 year mark...

That little clip fan comes in so handy I end up using it to dry my counter top ice maker when I'm done using it making ice.... and a few others things... It's so easy to take apart and keep clean.

I've used the dry cycle before... I honestly feel like I get better results this way... On the occasion when I run it overnight... next morning when I wake up I do the same proceedure...

I just keep it clipped onto the counter in an area that's out of the way when I'm not using it.
