A local damaged freight store has some Rinnai direct vented wall heaters for sale:electronic controls,7-stage modulated burner, varible speed draft blower, varible speed transflow type circulation blower,ETC.These units are made in Japan.thinking about buying one of these-anyone have any experience or comments on these?-most online reviews are all 5-star :)

I understand that some of these

May have electronics which reset to 'off' when there is a power interruption. Don't know if that's the case with these - should be easy to find out. If it is, then of course you couldn't depend on them to prevent pipes freezing in a house which is empty.

Otherwise, I've only heard good things about them. Seem to be popular in the northern part of our state.

I have a very good friend that retired to his parents "summer home" in northern New Hampshire.  It was built with all electric everything since they only used it 8 months out of the year and closed it for the winter.  After he lived there for a couple of years and got tired of having $1000 a month electric bills in the winter, he put in 3 Rinnai LP direct vent heaters, I guess that was about 5 years ago. He had one put in the living room on the main floor,  one put in the family room lower level, and small one put in the attached garage (all the utilities are in there)   I was VERY impressed by them.  Very quiet and the electronic controls were very accurate.  And really they heated the whole house, with the exception of still using the electric baseboards in the bathrooms and bedroom.  They run off a 300 lb propane tank in the back of the house.  They certainly have paid for themselves.

I say go for it, you won't be dissapointed.

bought one

bought an ex22-box was munched, some of the mount kit missing, but heater not damaged-2011 date codes found.Got it apart for technical examination as soon as I got it home, and very pleased with the construction and quality of components :)There is an evaporation pan under the air discharge that can be filled with water for humidification purposes and a lint screen at the air intake grille on the back.Unit set for propane, but will convert to natural gas for house use:have to change 4 nozzles , reset some parameters in the ECM,check some gas pressures and adjust if needed.
