Thanks Seamus, there is a lot of background to that show, not all of it was good. But in the end it turned out just fine and we were pleased we did it. Just note that all of their "facts" and much of "reality TV" was far from reality.
If reality TV was presented in a real-time format, nobody would watch it. Viewership's lowest common denominator demographic, to which all reality programs appeal, requires gratuitous editing in order to hold its interest, along with that of sponsors.
Even when the real-time documentary series "An American Family" aired over four decades ago -- when broadcast TV's content was far less sensationalistic than it is today -- the only viable option for broadcasting was member- and grant-supported PBS.
Robert has stated that certain scenes and situations were either staged or re-created for the TLC segment. One thing is for sure. He and Fred did not come off as the least bit crazy. That's if you can consider my opinion an objective one.
Nice Job Robert and Fred!!
Oddly we got a UK commentary with an English Lady and all the values in £s.....
Hope the people you got that 50 Frigidaire from didn't watch - they might have regretted not charging you a bit more lol....
Seamus
but saw the rest of the show on TLC last night. OMG Fred is even more handsome when seen with a Hoover )and that one that sucked up the suds how neat was that? I do not think they came over as anything other than fanatics of appliances and thats what we are all here for surely?
Loved the show and the look around their super home. Thank you both for having the B***s for going on TV.
