Rough Looking Lady Kenmore Dryer

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

That amount of wear on a dryer drum of that era isn’t too surprising. My Whirlpool Imperial dryer has some wear on the drum, seems like the dryer has had more use than the washer by the looks of it.

Externally, the dryer looks fantastic especially for its age.

Inside the drum and rear bulkhead, it's worn because Whirlpool used the cheapest/thinnest paint in the industry. My 1981 Kenmore dryer only had a little paint about 1/4" to the left side of the baffles. Everywhere else (entire drum and rear bulkhead), was completely GONE by 2003-ish. They finally switched to a better paint and different color (enamel?) around the late 80's/early 90's.

The machine will still run perfectly fine, it just looks tacky until it completely wears out everywhere.

Interestingly enough, I believe the Kenmore dryers in the early 60’s had a porcelain drum. RCD found a 1964 Lady Kenmore dryer which had the porcelain drum in it, though my Whirlpool only has the painted drum. Seems like you could get a porcelain drum on the Kenmores (at least it was an option) while it wasn’t an option on the Whirlpools to my knowledge. With Maytag around this time in the mid to late 60’s, you got a all porcelain drum from the BOL to TOL models.
