The "laundry mat" reference always irritates me! It should be written as laundromat, a self-service, coin-operated laundry facility ... combination of laundry and automat (which is a self-service, coin-operated, vending machine food service facility). Laundromat also recalls Westinghouse's trademark (now expired) name for their frontloaders and coin-op laundries equipped with said machines.
