I don't normally talk about refrigerators, but this one just came in today and it's quite different than any other fridge I've owned.
Up until today, my family had been using a Frigidaire Gallery stainless steel French door refrigerator (FGHF2366PFAA), which was manufactured in 2016 and came with the house. While that fridge served us well for the most part, it had a much smaller capacity (21.9 cu. ft.) than that of the Samsung we previously had at my old house (that was also a stainless steel French door model). This made it a challenge to get all of our food in there, particularly Hello Fresh and/or Home Chef meals, not to mention groceries from Costco trips. A few years ago, we had to get a mini fridge to compensate for the reduced capacity of the Frigidaire.
To add insult to injury, the Frigidaire had an ugly, recurring issue: ice would build up in the bottom of the freezer, and then the fridge would leak ice cold water out of the front two feet and onto the floor. We would have to use kitchen towels to soak up the water. And then I would have to periodically grab a hammer and use it to crack the ice in the bottom of the freezer. Said ice would get up to an inch thick down there. However, more ice would just build up, and the cycle would continue.
We finally got tired of the Frigidaire, so my dad did some extensive research on new refrigerators, and ultimately settled on this Samsung Bespoke 4-door model with white front glass. He ordered it last week, and it came in today; two gentlemen installed the new fridge and hauled away the old one.
With a capacity of 29 cu. ft., this Samsung is an absolute monolith, sticking out roughly a foot away from the wall. The fridge no longer matches the rest of the Frigidaire appliances we have, but that's no big deal.
Right off the bat, it holds a LOT more food compared to the Frigidaire. There is no doubt that everything will fit in there with ease. All of our sauces fit neatly in the door shelves. We might not need our mini fridge anymore!
One of two standout features is the "Beverage Center," accessible by pulling a latch on the left door. This opens a small door where water can be accessed in either two ways: a pitcher (with automatic refilling), or the standard press to dispense mechanism. It also allows us to quickly reach for the sauces we use most often.
The other standout is the "FlexZone." This allows the lower-right storage space to be customized as either a refrigerator or a freezer, with 5 adjustable temperature settings. So far, we have dedicated that space to meat and cheese.
However, the freezer, which is in the lower-left door, is a lot smaller than that of the Frigidaire. This means that we'll have to be very selective about what goes in there. As a result of having so much frozen food, we've had a GE chest freezer for several years now.
So those are my first impressions of this incredibly modern refrigerator. Here are some early pics of the new one, along with the old Frigidaire before it was hauled away.
