Ok, I have a question. I have been a member since 2001 and have read thousands of threads and posted a few myself. I must admit, when we bought this house it came with a brand new Samsung front load washer and dryer. As soon as I learned that I planned to bring my top load washer and dryer down with us. Long story short, we were down here for a week to set up the house before we moved down. I wound up using the Samsung set and was so impressed I decided to leave my top load set in our old house in CT. We are now here 6 years and I couldn't live without my Samsung set. They clean beautifully, dry beautifully and are the most flexible set I have ever owned. The reason I'm posting this is because Samsung is such a hated brand. I was so skeptical in the beginning but I am sold. If and WHEN these break, I will replace them with another Samsung. The cleaning is the best I have ever experienced, the cycles are fantastic and the flexibility is wonderful. What are your thoughts? Love and hate are accepted lol

Hi Geoff,

In December, my 2005 Whirlpool direct drive top loader began leaking oil. I had purchased it from a used appliance store a couple years before that, so I decided to retire it and get a new washer.

My first choice was an LG front loader with turbo wash, likely the 4000 model. However, given that I am blind, I had concerns about the inaccessibility of the control panel on this machine. It has menus that change and no tactile feedback on the panel so it's impossible to keep track of where one is non-visually when making selections. So, I ended up buying a cheap Whirlpool top loader with all knobs except for the push-to-start button, because this machine is very easy to use without sight. However...

I gave a lot of consideration to purchasing a Samsung FL, the reason being that they allege to now incorporate accessibility for visually impaired users out of the box. Apparently, there is braille beside the power and start/pause buttons as well as dots underneath the touch screen buttons for spin speed, soil level, and number of rinses, so a blind person would know where to find these key buttons on the panel. In addition, there are tones to help the user keep track of where they are on the menu; for example, a lower tone for the slowest speed, lightest soil, and least number of rinses, and the tones go higher as the user goes up through the menus. The reliance on visual touch screen controls is the main issue that's kept me away from FL's for so long, and Samsun appears to have solved that problem. I don't think your model would have these modifications as I believe they were introduced in 2021 or so.

All of the hate circulating the web about Samsung appliances is what stopped me from pulling the trigger. So many people seem to have issues with their Samsung washers, especially in regards to the aluminum alloy arm that holds the drum on FL's deteriorating in an alarmingly short amount of time. A lot of people here, many of whom are washer experts, appear to share this view. But then I read your post and feel like I judged prematurely and would have been perfectly happy with a Samsung FL. I really like my Whirlpool top loader, but sometimes I feel like I should have given the Samsung a try, rather than listening to all the noise.

I'm glad you are enjoying your washer.

Glad you love the Samsung washer and dryer

When you break it all down, there’s really not much difference between a new Samsung pair and LG pair a Maytag whirlpool Electrolux or GE pair of front load washers and dryers, all of them will do an excellent job if used properly and I suspect the majority of owners of all of these brands are very pleased in general.

Samsung LG into a slightly lesser degree electro box. Dryers are all a copy of whirlpool’s very successful 27 inch dryer design.

Where Samsung may fall down. Is there are very bad about parts availability and many service companies don’t want to touch them. LG has some problems, maybe to a lesser degree, but the good news is all modern machines are so much more reliable today that you may not have any trouble with these machines for many years to come.

For build quality the only machines that are truly superior are the Speed Queen commercial based front load pairs and Miele for compact machines are a cut Above most of the compact machines available from all over the world.

One thing to keep in mind and this pertains to almost anything you buy in life is just because you have a great experience with it. It doesn’t mean it’s the best product in the world nor should you necessarily buy another one because of that having just one thing that works great or is a lemon is not statistically going to help you with the next product, the only thing your great experience with Samsung teaches you is that they do have a very good performing washer and dryer however, it doesn’t mean that it performs better than anybody else a similar style. It would be best to do research. When the time comes you you have to replace these machines. Hopefully, that’ll be a long time.

I must tell you that my machines do include braile and different tones for each setting. I have a very rare disease that caused me to go blind two years ago for about a month. My husband did help but I did all the laundry before I went totally blind. I never thought I would ever need them but the tones helped me incredibly after my husband sorted the clothes. Even blind I could set the washer and dryer by sound. They are a wonderful ADA brand

I like Samsung

My uncle's Samsung front loader is the longest lasting washer he's ever had (at least from my eyes) even longer than his old Kenmore 90 Series similar to mine he used to have a long time ago. After the Kenmore 90 Series, he bought a Kenmore front loader set which is basically a German made Whirlpool Duet. That one didn't lasted for very long and for whatever reason it couldn't get fixed, at least that's what I was told from him when we was trying to deal with it from Sears. So that got replaced by the Samsung but still kept the Kenmore gas dryer. I think it's been a good washer overall. Actually my local appliance repair place says that they like Samsung as well. If I were to pass on LG, I think Samsung would be my next choice to look into for a front loader set.

It would seem that Samsung is one of those luck-of-the-draw situations -- some people get one that lasts forever and others get one that dies just outside of warranty. Not really much in between as far as I understand it. I just didn't want to take that chance which is why I passed on a Samsung FL, but really I don't know what I was so concerned about. I think John's point above about it being hard to find service for them if something was to go wrong scared me, so I decided to stay away. I really like my Whirlpool VMW top loader, but I don't think I'll be satisfied until I'm able to scratch the front loader itch I experience every so often. The thing is, FL's are such a hotly debated topic, and those that love them are such staunch supporters, that I feel I just have to own one, and probably sooner rather than later I'd imagine. I'm not looking to make any big changes just now, but it may happen someday.

I feel like Samsung is hit or miss. I had a Samsung dryer a few years back and had constant issues with it. Replaced drum rollers and belt tensioner several times within 4-5 years and gave up on it. Never dried very well and always tangled everything. On the other hand, my client (caregiver) has the same washer pictured above, and a Samsung dryer similar to the one I had, and they work fine. Washer washes well and the dryer dries. I probably wouldn't own another Samsung after the issues I had with mine though.

Non-existent

When shopping for a new french door fridge several years ago @ Lowes, the sales associate tried to sell me a Samsung with such fervor that you would had thought he was employed by the manufacturer instead of Lowes.

During his spiel I interrupted him and asked who provided local service support, as it turns out absolutely nobody did in Hawaii at the time.

The chastising I gave him probably made him want to go back to flipping burgers...

Ours is similar if not

the same model. 2019 4.5 cu. ft. steam cycle. I have no complaints. A large mixed load, and I do maen a large capacity lundry basket load thakes 120 to 128 minutes on the normal steam cycle high spin with 3 rinses.
Stain removal is good. I use Persil Oxy liquid.
Average use is 2-3 times per week. Once for bedding.
The clean washer icon comes on about every 2 months or longer. I do whites with bleach before I run the clean cycle. I don't use any cleaning agent. No odor, or any issues.
