Just heard this on NPR.

My read: All the serious GOP presidential candidates are breathing a sigh of relief. They can sacrifice Palin against Obama in '12, thus not sullying their own chances to run in '16.

The close, but paraphrased, statement from Palin: "I think I can do a lot outside the government for Alaskans. And Americans."

Oh, this is going to be FUN!

They can sacrifice Palin against Obama in '12

That's if Obama's popularity holds up.
Keep in mind, ALOT can change in a few years!

If unemployment, and the housing market hasn't turned around by then, Obama will be sent back to Chicago.

Personally, I hope Mitt Romney runs in '12,and wins.

Putting the gay rights issue aside.....

economically, he is just what this country needs.
Also, he would be very tough on enforcing/securing the border.

Sorry, I am not a one issue voter. =)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Romney the one who dredged up an ancient and unenforced Massachussets law regarding marriage and residency to restrict same-sex marriage in that state? I just hate pettiness of this sort in politics - it's counterproductive and wasteful.

No doubt there is a story of sorts about to break in Alaska, to me the only question is whether it will involve sex or money, or possibly both. At least it might just get the media off of Michael Jackson for awhile, for which I'd be thankful.

Yeah, just what we need... Malibu Mitt, with Caribou Barbie as a running mate.

Caribou Barbie is done...

No chance she would ever get the GOP nomination.

yes, Malibu Mitt- I like that! vs Barack the Messiah in '12!!

Can't wait! =)

Malibu Mitt?

What's with this "Malibu Mitt" stuff? We in SoCal are not gonna claim the guy, they've gotta keep him in Massachussets or perhaps make him drive the Rambler back to Michigan.

I'm deadly serious about objecting to petty, party-centric politicians. We've had a crew of them here in California who've managed to destroy our state finances, and in Washington it only took Bush and Cheney eight years to turn a treasury surplus left by Clinton into a massive, massive debt that's now killing us. I'm not too happy about Obama's lack of support for gay rights, but at least he's not actively working against us, and as President is trying to work with Congress instead of thwarting their every move. Let's hope it works, our future depends on it.

Geez, the guy has been in office less than six months, inherited the HUGEST most CORRUPT mess IN ECONOMIC HISTORY from a MORON, an UNNECESSARY WAR, has hardly had a moment to get his bearings and has done pretty well considering everything that has come crashing down on his plate.

I don't at all understand this feeling of "can't wait" until 2012. Give the guy a fukcing chance already! Nobody ever claimed he was a miracle worker. Does anyone really think the likes of McCain or any of the other candidates in 2008--including Hillary--would have had things humming by this time? PULLLLEEEEEZ!

Romney isn't from California, but his tan is.

Right now the three Republican "frontrunners" for 2012 are Romney, Haley Barbour and Sarah Palin. The news couldn't be better for Obama, in fact it looks like the Republicans aren't even considering a serious challenge until 2016.

wait..

You forgot Charlie Crist. My gay, closeted, Governor.

Mark my words- He will run in 2012 also.

I am just glad he is leaving Florida for Washington.

Sorry, I am not a one issue voter.

Neither am I. Let's talk mandatory health insurance. No, wait, you don't want to get me going there since if I don't lie on my MA tax form next year I'll have to pay a penalty for not having had health insurance for 2 months this year thanks to the idiot Bush.

Shove Mitt in the same hole as W and save space.

Bitter? Not me!!! :-)

There Has Been Some Rumors About This Happening For Awhile

Alaska is not exactly around the corner from even California, much less the other Untied States. It would be hard to run for a *higher* office whilst still handling the state's business for such a far away state.

Most of the other names mentioned as possible Republicans running for president in 2012 do not have jobs, such as Mitt Romney, thus they could devote all of their time to the purpose.

As for Palin, she must make a move soon if planning to be the first woman elected president of the USA. After electing a black man, the thing is not so far off the mark, and that Clinton woman is not totally out of the picture.

Popular theory holds that a deal was cut between Obama and the Clintons. While he could not give Mrs. Clinton the vice-president spot this time around, it will be offered (and one assumes taken), in 2012, giving her a good run up for the 2016 elections.

Too far fetched? Not really. The Clintons aren't ready to lay down all politican ambitions just yet. Being as that may, Mrs. Clinton wouldn't dare oppose Mr. Obama in 2012, and he needs to keep is "enemies" close as it were.

What with all this "Barack The Messiah" stuff? Again: The only people who call him that or see him in that light are Republicans and Fox News. Those of us who voted for him simply think he has a brain that works.

I listened to her entire announcement on YouTube, and it's a scattershot mess. That some people can actually take her seriously as a candidate for the presidency is astounding.
