Sauvitel Ultra

After trying the Sauvitel fabric softener for the first time (Baby Powder Fresh) and really liking it, we bought a bottle of the Sauvitel Ultra (Field Flowers - Blue Bottle). One of the things we liked about the Baby Powder scent is that it was mild. We usually use fabric softner only occasionally, and in the first rinse in our WP TL machine. The second rinse doesn't have anything added to it.
Well, did we get a shock. The first thing we noticed is that our large walk in closet had a Field Flowers scent to it. Not bad, but when we put the sheets on the bed last night that this softner had been used on we were amazed at how strong the scent was. The whole bedroom reeked! And we only used about 1/2 of the recommended amount! I think the smell work us up a few times during the night. And it was added to the first rinse only.
I will admit that when we bought it, we didn't notice the "ultra" on the bottle.
Anyone else ever been "bowled over" by the scent of this fabric softner?

Whirlcool, I would strongly suggest sticking to `white bottle' fabric softeners and only using exciting scents very occasionally and with care. Artificial fragrances on fabric softeners cause a wealth of problems. I'm not surpised you woke up in the night.

I used to want to find the nicest scent for my laundry, now I think that the nicest scent for my laundry is no scent, just the smell of clean. So now if I need FS I tend to use unscented and match it with a lightly scented detergent.

Of course, in America I don't believe that all the fragrances are listed as they are here in Europe. If they were you'd see that most `smelly' FS contains `perfume' then 4-5 fragrance allergens. The exceptions (at least over here) are white bottle products (advertised as `baby' or `sensitive') and these don't usually containa any of the bad stuff, just `perfume'.

Case study: I was using Lenor Spring Awakening (roughly equiv to Downy April Fresh in terms of branding but not such a nice scent) and wondering why the smell really pissed me off and depressed me. I found out on the web that `linalool', one of the scents in it has,in the past, been linked to depression.

I have 3 Ultra Sauvitel formulas..

And yes, they are quite strong. I am currently using the Field of Flowers, Morning Sun and Lilac Essence for the linens. I only add about 2 tablespoons worth to the dispenser. I have a Neptune and the softener is added to rinse number 3. The smell does last for a long time afterwards. But the softening abilites of the product are great, albeit a bit loud. Just cut back on the dosage and you should be just fine and not bowled over the next time.

I love the bottles of yellow Suavitel, but it doesn't dispense well in either my FL'er or my TL'er. It's amazingly thick. Haven't tried the ultra because I'm afraid it would be even thicker. I add it manually.

When I need to use my dispensers, I use Snuggle or Downy.

I had the same problem with the regular Sauvitel but, the ultra version does not seem to do it as bad. There is still some that clings to the dispenser but not as much as the standard bottles.

Final Touch

If you can find Final Touch in your area, I would highly recommend it. It has a great,fresh scent to it and it is about the same consistency as Downy. Its not at all overpowering. I also love the New Downy scent (Simple Pleasures), Vanilla & Lavender

We have tried the old Vanilla & Lavender that Downy had out before and really liked it. We tried this Sauvitel just to try it out. Unfortunately we bought the huge bottle so it will be with us for some time to come. At the rate in which we use fabric softner, it will be with us for at least a year to come!

Christopher---Thanks for the info on Suavitel Ultra. I'll have to give it a try. I have become a fan of the hugely-scented fabric softeners. The first time I used a big dose of Suavitel on my bed linens and comforter, the scent actually kept me awake the first night!

Colgate`s blue color FS (German version) was the first laundry product which I would have almost thrown away after using it for just a few loads. Those clothes gave me headaches in daytime and sleeping in those sheets was not much of a joy, either.
The lilac version reeks very similar. I Recommend to stay away from it, too.
God, was I relieved, when my Mom said she will use up the rest. (My conscience wouldn`t have allowed to throw it in the rubbish). Though actually good products, I find the blue and lilac scents just not acceptable.
Whatever I try, I always come back to Procter&G Fabric softeners. I like most flavors except the original "April Fresh". The yellow "Summer Fresh" is very pleasant to my nose and doesn`t give me nightmares.
Henkel`s FS are scentwise too boring for my needs and Unilever FS contains nonionic surfactants which I do not want to have in the last rinse.

Find a victim to hand it down to, as I did and try somthing else.

I know what you are talking about when it comes to concious about throwing something away. Hmmm. There is this cat lady across the street that I could probably give it to. The smell would definitely kill the "kitty box" odor she has in her home!

Final Touch

I definitely agree with Shane on this one....Final Touch is effective without smelling obnoxiously, and is one of the few fabric softeners that leaves NO residue in my sink after draining....it also does not build up on clothing over time, and is definitely one of the best bargains presently in the softener aisle (in NY/NJ, anyway)....

Stefan, is Colgate-Palmolive's German FS offering called "Softlan"?

Hey Scott..

I think Final Touch is only available in the Northeast. I haven't seen it down here in Florida. I bought the large bottle of Final Touch- Spring Fresh and a few smaller bottles on a recent trip to Long Island.
I also stock up on my RedPack crushed Tomatoes and paste. And lastly, Levy's Jewish Rye bread with caraway seeds.
People in the tri state area just don't know how lucky they have it.

Oh, if I go to the Winter Music Conference in Miami at the end of March, I'll leave some tomatoes and softener on your doorstep, LOL!

(My mother will use ONLY Redpack tomatoes in her amazing sauce as well....and they are on sale at Pathmark this week!!)

Amazing, that with all us "New Yawkers" in FL, that the big brands up here wouldn't find their way to your supermarket shelves....

Oh gawd, don't tease me!!!!
I can get RedPack here but only the whole and diced tomatoes.
To make the best tasting Italian sauce, you need the crushed Redpack tomatoes and the paste.
I follow my late Aunt Marcella's recipe everytime and yum..delish! My hubby says I should can it!

Yes, my mom demands ONLY the Redpack crushed and the paste as well (she tosses in a can of tomato sauce as well to help her measure the water...long story, and THAT can be Contadina or even store-brand)....until recently, she processed the tomatoes by HAND, to her satisfaction.....I've brought her numerous imported brands, much to her annoyance...and it IS true, the sauce does taste much better with Redpack!
