Just a heads up :)

I picked up 4 boxes at my local Sears; 2 for me, 2 for my parents. I took half of what they had out. Only this size was on sale, Im guessing to clear out inventory for the new packaging.

They didnt have the Free & Clear. The salesman said that a new company would be providing that formula, no longer from DeSoto.

I recently

Bought 2 of the 275 load in the green boxes after reading how quite a few people here like it..I have to say I like it so far but I do spike it with stpp for really dirty loads. I would like to try the orange box next but my husband may have a fit as I have at least enough detergent for 3 years, but what can I say I developed some kind of addiction to collecting laundry detergent. .thank you for letting us all know about the sale.

This detergent, IMO is very good at cleaning. From what I hear, the Sears brand is being dropped and rebadged as Kenmore; I believe that a different manufacturer is making the new Kenmore detergent.
I have been to 3 Sears stores and bought A LOT of what is in stock (the orange box) so I am good to go for years it seems. Have fun. Gary

When the new kenmore detergent will be on the shelves and if the formula will be different and what co. Will be making it..lol lots of wondering here. My first box of sears detergent was the one with added fabric softener...it was returned that same day..the smell was horrible kinda like plastic so when I returned it I had sears open the green box before I would buy it..lol they probably thought I was crazy. just a heads up......check your location for amount in stock......

and take a copy of the AD with you.......one store it scanned correctly, the other it did not....save yourself time and hassle....
 
IMHO, the blue box, the one with Oxyclean, is far superior to the orange or green box "regular" Ultra Plus. It sudses less, seems to dissolve better, and whitens better without fading colors.

 

I picked up about 8 boxes of blue over the weekend. I'm set for a while ;-).

I did the math yesterday and picked up two 120 boxes. The 120 box works out to 95.75 cents/lb whereas the 180 box works out to 98.25 cents/lb. And the price of the 120 box had gone up 1.00 from 9.99 to 10.99 since last Friday when I first followed the link here and checked it out. I mentioned to the employee that Sears was selling off the old detergent and replacing with a new formula under the name Kenmore. He had no knowledge of it.

Funny the topic of Sears detergent being rebadged, and a manufacturing shift occurring.

This has happened recently with BMW, who have shifted their oil supply for their in-house brands from Castrol to Shell.

And Castrol has shifted manufacturing of their famous "German Castrol" to Belgium, creating all havoc on oil forums... (This stuff was touted as oil with magical properties, and a smell of gummy bears...)

Off-Topic, yes, but interesting nonetheless...
 
I knew

The 180 load box cost more per load than the current sale price of the 120 load box however my local sears were out of the 120 box and to drive a distance would have cost money in fuel and ordering online shipping fees...I could have waited for my store to restock but I didn't want to risk them not getting anymore in since they told me their phasing it out. Besides I grabbed what I could while hubby was at work..lol wouldn't do for UPS to knock on my door with laundry detergent. .I have way too much and hubby already wants to send me to detergent anonymous. .hehe
 
I compare a lot when it comes to buying detergents, if I can, I boil it down to cost per load/use/scoop......really easy if its a 100 use, lets say at 13.00 for a box....that's .13 cents per load.....but yeah you do have keep a small calculator with you for such things to figure out which is the better bargain....

if anything, or I should say ALWAYS take a print out with you.....my print out said 9.99, by the time I got to the store, it was 10.99.....they wanted me to go back home and buy 'on-line' for in-store pickup.....who the heck has time to do all of that, a waste of time and gas....

that's when you have to raise your voice and start yelling.....they marked it down....as I mentioned to the manager, is there any wonder why the store is not packed like it used to be?...
 
I had the printout with me from 4/10 which showed the price at 9.99 and I let myself be charged 10.99. When the employee scanned the box it came up 10.99 and he said online price is sometimes different. I asked if the price could have gone up a 1.00 since last Friday and he said yes. I didn't even think to question it further and try to get it for the 9.99. Have to remember it never hurts to ask.
 
I'm not sure

That most of the sears in store employees know what they are talking about..they gave me a registar printed coupon for 5 dollars off my next 25 dollar order yesterday ..so I tried to buy the sears detergent in the green box as id already bought the last orange..I was told I had to wait until my next trip to use it..I took my stash the car and returned was than told it didn't start until april 19th...I'm fed up with that store and sears.com...don't get me started on them lol
 
Those receipt coupons

crack me up. They even go so far to ask now "do you want me to print your coupons." The amount of paper that is wasted. Most of them are useless because it starts the next day or you have to spend $xxx on a specific item category. I still like sears because they carry good quality soft lines. I have been shopping there more than JCP because they alienated me with the store change.

To not drift so far... I have to try that sears detergent.
 
Taking a calculator shopping

Big box stores like to do fuzzy math when it comes to listing "unit" prices on the shelves. Between two sizes of an item, the change the way the list the unit price. Sometimes its actually cheaper to buy smaller containers or packaging. Makes no sense.

Yeah, those Sears coupons are a waste of time. I never use them - they are usually for stuff that I wouldnt be buying anyway.

Crazy how they raised the price. Look at how they jacked up the price for the new Kenmore laundry detergent (although its on sale at the moment).

What I've found is that if you want to get the discounted price posted online, you have to place an order online, and then either have it shipped for extra cost, of find a local Sears store that has the item in stock so you can go pick it up there without shipping charges.

 

This doesn't always work, however. I purchased three orange boxes and one blue box at the nearest Sears, all the blue stuff they had according to the Sears web site. But when I got there, they only had four orange boxes, no blue, and they were unable to just sell me three. So I got all four with the intention of returning some of the orange once I had located more blue. I wound up driving 33 miles to another Sears to pick up four blue boxes. Another Sears location, closer, had three blue boxes on display but none according to the web site. I snapped those up as well.

 

Now I have too many, so I'll probably be returning some of the orange boxes once I re-affirm that the blue is the better of the two (as I recall from testing my Miele).

Boxes is what I originally went to sears to purchase but they only had the orange and the unscented kenmore. .I live about 45 minutes from Pittsburgh so when I take my daughter I to children's hospital next week I may find a sears in the city and look for the blue with oxy as i'd like to try it..I will also stop at the Mexican grocers I love checking out their detergents.
 
Donald went to Sears today..

Bought 2 180 load boxes, but they were NOT on sale, 47.98 for both, I love it, but I use 2 scoops instead of one for a big load.     Donald used to work in that store,"Hanes Mall in Winston Salem", he said it looked pitiful compared to what it was in the 80s., very little merchandise on the shelves.

Have a HE or standard top loader? I'm just wondering since you use 2 scoops..I have a stand top loader and I can usually use 2 scoops of sears however if I have a really dirty load like when were doing yard work like today it will probably take 3 for the jeans. Glad you found the blue boxes my sears says they won't have it in again. Have a good one.

I would hold that receipt in case it does go on sale/clearance in the next 30 days, they will offer a refund for the difference...

I could tell you a story of sears, and price matching, to which they honored, I bought a coffeemaker, on sale, found it on sale cheaper some place else, took the AD back to sears for the sale difference.....they gave me a full refund.....not once, but twice.....went to the Asst Mgr 2 days later to explain their mistake.....and got another full refund.....and I still have the coffeemaker....just left shaking my head.....its been three years, thinking they would catch the mistake eventually and call me...

belt drive Kenmore we don't use the blue box we use the orange box ultra plus concentrated fresh scent with stain fighting formula.  we also use some extra if the clothes are heavily soiled.
