I called Apliance and refrigeration Hospital here in Portland about getting my Radar range service. I love this thing and have no intentions of parting with it, however, i know that it may need a little tweek, perhaps a Magnatron tube, it is from 1975. The people that i live with and myself use it daily, and it seems to be ok most of the time, Sometimes when i heat a frozen TV dinner, part of it a just slightly frozen after eight mintues sometimes. What would you suggest for service and parts( which are both avalible at a premeium) 600 dollars-----?

Had the same sort of thing happen to my first Radarange. After a few weeks weeks,it smoked, smelled, sparked and died. I bought another older model on ebay. I like the style of the second model better than the first.
I think you are best off to find another. They are not rare at all.

best of luck,
Rick

Annoying isn't it.. Another one will turn up. You'll find another that you can scavenge parts from or replace it with. I got one from a newspaper ad and the other two or at least one of the two I got from Value Village. Since then I've seen numerous of them in there. So they are out there aplenty.

Hey Ritchie!

I'm also in the Portland area. Did the Appliance and Refrigeration Hospital actually quote you $600. plus ?
This sounds outrageous unless all parts for these are now obsolete which could be the case. I used to have a Touchmatic II years ago but sold it when I moved into a house that had a built in microwave. Never did I think I would regret letting go of it, but now I do. I do remember that thing weighed a ton! I'll keep my eyes peeled when I'm looking around and if I see one I'll let you know.

Here's a pic I found on the net, not mine, but looked just like this.

They did quote me 600, and that was everything

Or there abouts. Appliance and refrigeration hospital said that the part that I think I need is six weeks out.It still works for now; and it is clean and rust free.I bought it down in Lebanon, Oregon when I went though there on the Fourth of July and Gave my Gay Microwave to a Friend( I called it that because it would Ting-ting-ting-it was black and silver--and was the more beautiful than James Dean with his shirt off. )That is pretty tough to beat. My Radar Range is i guess what you would call a touch-o-matic.I am sure that it will be ok for a while longer. When i redo my house, i was going to keep it and get an applince garage for it next to my wall ovens. Although, it sounds like everyone is giving me good advice.I will consider looking for another once this one goes to the "Great beyond"

It is an RR-6-W

Cory---
I looked at it and it is an RR 6W--Sitting on its Granite Throne. i will have to take a pic of it and post it for everyone to see.I remember when I was in elementry school and seeing the microwaves that they had at Micro centers of America at Janzen Beach mall where my mother bought our first one. I lusted over the Radar Range---, My mom bought a Littion and let me attentd the Microwave cooking class with her. i had so much fun. i also have a Micrwave cook book signed my the author Barbra Harris, who is is also from Portland,OR, imagine that. These Radar Ranges are great I thnk.

Thank you Patrick

I am glad that i found it, and this place is full of great finds if you have the eye to see it. There is a place in NE Portland that is called Appliance City that had tons of vintage Ranges and a Frigidaire refrigerator from 1939 that had never been used. a couple of years back. It had come from a storage locker that had been sold and they gained it. They also had a 1939 Bendix washer in there that still worked. They let me play with it for a few minutes. The hoses leaked a little, and the seal should probibly have been replaced, they were only going to ask 200 for it.

I have heard of Appliance City once before but never been to see it. I will have to make my way over there soon and see what they've got. Wow, a never been used refrigerator from 1939. That would have been cool just to look at up close. Portland used to have a lot more used appliance stores than it does now. It seems everyone is more interested in the value of scrap metal these days. Do you ever make it to estate or garage sales much? In the right neighborhoods I know there are treasures waiting to be found.

Have a great day!

Patrick
