I would love if somebody could give a brief resume of the site to date, and maybe mention a few of the past milestones so as I can get a handle on who's who and whats what! From the tone of the general banter, I get the impression that you've known each other for years, but how many??

Would it also be possible to have some sort of an (optional) photo reference for members as mentioned in the current thread? Something tied in with the members profile page perhaps? It's great to be able to put names on faces, especially if your a newwie like me!!

Mark, welcome. This site originally began as a Yahoo Group, Classic Appliances, September 1999. At that time, there was a core group of guys who had been restoring vintage washers and such for a number of years. Taht yahoo group is still in exhistence today. I personally joined April of 2000. Because of the amount of volume, being bogged down by Yahoo because of our postings and such, as well as the desire to have our own web site, this site was launched May 2001 by our web master Unimatic1140. Our first Convention was August 2001 in Minneapolis, Minn. at Unimatic1140s house. We had another Convention in Maryland & Washington DC area August 2002. The next conventiono we had was June, 2005 in Omaha, Nebraska. Yes, many of us have known each ote3hr for years. But because of our uhnique fascination and other things, we are a close-knit group. It is like a family as you can see. Bob

thanks for the info

Appnut, thanks for being the first to take the task in hand..nice resume, and good grounding for site virgins like me!

Louis, many thanks too for the Yahoo link. It felt a bit strange disturbing the skeletons of conversations long past but very much alive in their own time. Having said that, I also happened across conversations about starting up a seperate laundry type website - history in the making! (B.T.W I lived in Holland for a while, and visited Groningen once too, but thats another story for another time!)

And Toggles, you couldnt have put it better when you said that there is 'the occassional need for a good slap', although it would appear that its effectiveness has worn off on some people ;-)

One last question for today...what is the story with the Tucson wash-in? Ive heard some references to it, but not too sure of the details.

'Slan leat agus codlagh saibh go leir' (thats Goodbye & sleep well to you all in Gaelic)

Mark
