So as some of you know, I decided to do a retro kitchen in my basement. (Pictures to come later.) Where better to get the retro appliances than the ones I had already restored and put in my kitchen upstairs? And then what after that? New Frigidaires, of course!

Is that dishwasher right???? Thats a Whirlpool in disguise. Nice stove and Microwave. But the dishwasher made me do a double take.

We have the exact same range in black. But our Frigidaire dishwasher not only performs flawlessly, but it bears no resemblance to a Whirlpool, or any other brand for that matter.

The nameplate on the dishwasher was more than likely taken off a refrigerator and placed over the original Whirlpool name. That dishwasher is definately not a Frigidaire. It's a Whirlpool Quiet Partner.

OK, I give....

I knew I couldn't pull one over on you guys for long, but not even for a minute!? LOL

Explanation, and Gadgets "money shot" after I return from work.

Meanwhile...Does anyone have any thoughts at all on the quality/longevity of a Whirlpool dishwasher over a Frigidaire?

Great choices in appliances. Mazel Tov. In good health!

Well, I bought my WP DW (with a mechanical timer) in 1991 and it still works. My all-time favorite dishwashing machine. That apartment is for sale by current owner and it's still the same machine in the current pictures the real-etate has posted.

My mother has one, as well, of the same era and its-a-just-fine.

The Frigipool Story....

When I went to buy my new appliances, I picked out the range and microwave first. When I told the salesman I wanted to see the matching dishwasher, his opening line was "you don't want that dishwasher." I looked at it, and told him that I did, in fact, want it, and that my set had to match. We went back, and forth for a long time. I was getting more and more upset with him, and I knew he could tell. His argument was that Frigidaire made great appliances EXCEPT the dishwasher. Long story short I realized that since he could tell I was getting upset with him, and he was still trying to talk me into something other than what I wanted, maybe, just maybe, he was telling me the truth. The Whirlpool had a higher price tag than the Frigidaire, as well. That was my next argument. He agreed to drop the price below that of the Frigidaire. I finally agreed. I'm sure he was happy to be rid of me, especially since I did not buy his extended warranty on anything, and he knew I was leaving a bit upset. But I had to smile when the dishwasher arrived at the house wearing a Frigidaire badge. I laughed out loud. So Gadget, here is your money shot.

gas range

I have the same range with Speed Bake (simple convection) in gas and also white. The five burner model with grates that go all the way across (GLGF386D) was not yet in production when I bought it in late 2001. Instead, I have GLGF376D, which is four burners and grates that don't cover the entire cooktop. Both ranges feature Speed Bake, which works well and is very, very quiet. Even though it lacks a third heating element, the cooking is very even and it cuts about 8-10 minutes per hour off the cooking time. You can load the oven to the gills and everything cooks evenly.

just fyi retroguy,in the 6 months I have owned my Frigi-scare Pro series dishwasher,it's been repared 3 times.the first repair was a main motor replacement, the second was readjustment of the lower main spray arm,the third was a new control board.Need I say more?I actualy purchased a KitchenAid Superba(KDS22)on Craigs List yesterday for $10!!mint condition. The owner said her mother who had past away, used it as a drying rack for hand washed dishes! The racks and porcelain interior glyson!I believe this was the first year they had the upper spray arm.The Whirlpool dishwasher is much better than a Frigi-scare.

omg...

Thanks Chuck, I guess I do owe the appliance guy an apology then. Seems he was being honest. You totally lucked into that Kitchen Aid. It sounds awesome! Going to show it to us? =)
