Here are some pictures of our finds this past Saturday at our local vacuum shop. These all need a good bit of restoration but they are intact.

Some more pictures!

Here is a close up. From left to right...a Hoover model 719 circa 1969...Hoover Junior model 1330 circa 1965...Hoover model 475 circa 1935...and a Hoover convertible model 707 (1971-1975)...again very dirty but all there.

More close ups...

Here are the others...a Hoover convertible U4089 circa 1975 with a badly bent handle release lever (easy and cheap fix!!)...and a Hoover convertible model 593 (1971-1973) with a green bumper instead of the taupe colored bumper very unusual (the whole machine will get a repaint as the paint is flaking off like crazy!)

I hope that you enjoyed looking at these pictures as much as I had finding them in a pile of cleaners. I think everyone would agree that it is the thrill of the hunt...even better when you find something interesting.

Matching Hoover Paint Colors

Tom - I know that Hoover had very specific paint names and probably could scrounge them up in an old Hesco catalog. How do you go about matching Hoover paint and what kind of paint do you use?

Hi Tom, great finds. I have a few more for you here in my workshop. Been using the two Hoovers that you gave me in January and I love them! Will give you a phone call soon.........Jimmy

Tom

Congratulations on all those Hoover finds. I know what you mean about the thrill of the hunt! I mentioned something on another thread about how the model U4089 had a white strip on top of the bag instead of being all yellow. I wonder why that was? BTW, those attachments arrived today and my model 50 eis very Happy!!! Now the only piece missing is the upholstery tool.

Fred...the paint on the 70's machines is very close to appliance epoxy in almond. It's cheap and easy to spray. It looks good but a little too shiny to be original. The blue 719 is an odd pinky brown color that I have not been able to match. The green convertible is the one that will get the complete overhaul. It is very relaxing and satisfying to bring one back from the dead!

Hi Jimmy! I hope that your trip was fun...I am looking forward to getting together again. Happy Hoovering!

The 475 did not end up in my collection but rather a friend of mine. It was very nice but that bag was awful...sort of "thick" and very dirty. We put an aftermarket black bag on it and it ran like a champ. With a new set of bristles it really cleaned. We put a paper bag liner in it so that he could use it to tidy up. The old Hoovers have the best sound and look so very cool all lit up and ready to go.

As for the white strip on the yellow bag...it was just part of that model...some of the other models had a hard plastic top covering the topmost part of the bag...it was usually some contrasting color. This one is just part of the vinyl bag itself.

Hi Tom,

Excellent finds, congrats!! I too love the Model 475 and the Junior!! That's the earliest US model I've seen that wasn't a 115; when was this hood design first produced?

Model 719 finished

I wish the Caddy were mine...but no...I can atest to the huge trunk!

Here is the Convertible model 719 all done...circa 1969. It runs great...for some reason the high speed switch was stuck on high, the handle and lens was taped together, and someone beat the you know what out of the agitator. It runs like brand new now. I am keeping the funky brownish handle grip...it is so cool.

a close up

Here is the machine close up. It still has some paint loss but this is one of my favorite machine...I think this one makes number 7 or 8. My mom had this one when she was married in 1971 and it is the one I grew up with. Her machine is long gone, but I have many to remind me of my childhood.

--not bad for the bottom of a pile of vacuums...I mean the real bottom of the stack!

Such great finds and all in a day too. I expanded my rounds today venturing to the furtherest reaches of the city to hit a few Sally Anns and Goodwills as well as a Value Village that I rarely ever go to. My one find, another Elux stick vac like the one I got a month or so ago, but this one is tan color. Goodwill had another Regina Electrikbroom but it was identical to one I already have so I left it. No really good stuff though, except if you count one of those Zenith System 3 curved cabinet tv's.. that I want and only $29 but where in the heck am I gonna put it...
