Has anyone noticed the new appliances in the Draper kitchen? Don and Betty done bought themselves a new refrigerator and a new built-in oven in seems. And no one asked us for an opinion! BTW does anyone know the brand of their dishwasher? At first I thought it was a Westinghouse pull-out and got all excited. But then I noticed the gap in the front panel. Pity Maytag didn't make anything but washers at that point or Betty could have scored a Jet-Clean dishwasher. Somehow, I don't think either of them would care.

I think the son is definitely going to grow up to be one of us. Good thing they don't go to church; Tom Hanks son would probably do the unholy with little Bobby the liar.

And I dont' know about y'all but I loved watching Vincent Kartheiser do the Charleston.

...I was so rooting for that Bellboy.

I wonder if anything is going to happen to the new baby? What brand is their cooktop? Did I see push buttons?
Talking about church. I wonder what church they would belong to? My guess would be that they would attend an Episcopal Church. There are reasons that I think this; however, I don't want to start problems.lol Love the show too. Gary

Twilight sleep

I think part of the kitchen was changed during Betty's twilight sleep medication, dream when she saw her dad in the kitchen. i thought she had a new refrigerator last week. When they came home with the new baby all seemed "back to normal with the kitchen". The electric cooktop did look different. That was a strange pause at the last when she went to the crying baby.

I think the new fridge showed up with the new season. And it was long overdue. Considering the Drapers' comfortable financial situation, I thought it odd last season to see Betty defrosting the old 1950-ish vintage fridge (or did I imagine that?). She can go out to the stables but there's no money for a frostless fridge? I was glad to see they corrected that situation this season.

Also, isn't 1963 a little early for avocado anything?

Gary, the Drapers are the family of the main character in the "Mad Men" series on AMC.

As for the avocado, I'm talking about the double ovens and the cooktop.

The dishwasher is something like a modern maid I think? I am suprised that they didn't get a whole new kitchen for this season. this is the 3rd season and Don is a total success. The appliances are yellow. They have a Maytag washer and dryer, pictured in the first season.

Gary, it's on AMC Sunday nights at 10PM. And it re-runs over the course of the subsequent week. You can also rent the previous seasons on Netflix. It's worth watching just for the excellent re-creation of early 60's home and office scenes.

I guess I should check out the fairly new giant HD TV in our bedroom for color resolution. The chiffon yellow ovens and cooktop in the Draper kitchen appeared to be avocado this past Sunday.

Gary if you have comcast the old episodes have been "on demand" I too was confused about what season i had watched. Ben (Swestoys), got me straightened about what episodes i had missed. Thanks Ben. Gary Mad Men is highly rated and I think they have discovered their "niche". Mad men advertisers are BMW, and clorox LCB, the clorox commercials alone are worth a watch. They run through a pictorial history of laundry equipment, starting with a wringer and a glass bottle of clorox. "Duck" even "plugged clorox last week" Our DVR is always set to catch "Mad Men" alr2903

Yes, you can rent Season 1 and Season 2 on DVD. I recommend it, as artistically and socially it's an excellent job of capturing the early 1960's, even if one spots the occassional modular telephone.

Don & Betty's new dishwasher

I think of the first versions of the front loading GE units, with the sorta curved chrome handle that went across the whole top of the door assembly- under that was a kind of escutchon that had a white plastic insert with some kind of textured look to it- and below that, the cycle control dial- the top of line models had the cycle buttons to the left of that- My Aunt had that first model, & thats what I think of when I see the Draper's kitchen, but if the shots were longer, & lighting better, I would be able to see more - anyone else think that? Didn't these also have a rinse dispenser you had to reset each time befor you started the dishwasher?
