Yes Combodacious and think outside the OEM parts box!!!

I hit the wall last week and thanks to all your words of encouragement!! We have over come the battleship syndrome.

After getting most of the seals to work properly I came home to find that the "restored" water valve had a S L O W leak to it. Just like my 58 did! Water had backed up the condenser tube and was running across the floor.

A mess!
So not wanting to install another 50 year old valve and face that OR lukewarm water throughout the rest of the house I put on my thinking cap staring at a NEW Maytag water valve.
How could I get that into my Combo and get HOT or WARM water out of it?

Then it hit me: A RELAY A SOLENOID RELAY!!

Off to Radio Shack and $13.99 later I had all the parts I needed.
You wire it in the circuit so that whenever the washer calls for warm water it will call to the COLD water solenoid and then you have the relay activate the HOT solenoid and PRESTO warm water always!!!

I hate thermostatic valves, I hate paying $60 smackers for a 50 year old valve and I hate lukewarm showers and baths at my house.

Now all the problems are solved and I can use a nice $4.99 water valve off ebay that was made only months ago!!!

see the photographic evidence:

The dry cycle

As you know the hot box leaked like a sieve when I first tested this machine.

I used JB Industro Weld and Hi Temp Silcone and prayed to the washer gods in the sky and drains!!

IT WORKED see the photographic evidence!

I also tested the temp range with my meter and found the box only reached 230-240 degrees WELL BELOW the 650 degrees of the JB Weld and WELL below the 600 degrees of the silicone

After You Get a Well-Deserved Rest...

Would ya mind sharing a video demo of your restored Bendix? Sounds like you went through the wringer to get her working up to snuff. Big Congrats on overcoming all those annoying leaks and other issues. Many Thanks.--Laundry Shark

I'm so proud of you Jon!!! I knew that you could do it. Can't wait to see it when you have it all installed in its new spot.

Jon, congratulations. I knew you could do it!! Good ol' Yankee (literally and said lovingly) ingenuity comes to the forefront and saves the day!! YEE HAW!! And see, everyone is so proud of you and thrilled with your success, you earned the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval!! What a man!!! Bob

Beautiful restoration work Jon, brings a tear to my eye! I love JB Weld as well, I always carry a couple of tubes with me in my purse just in case.

Wow! Look at that butt on that Bendii-Boy! You'll be in the AW.org calendar for sure...

Nice work on the combo, do you have a wiring diagram and parts-list for your water valve relay? It might be helpful to post that for collectors in future civilizations to get their excavated Bendix combos (and any machine with a pesky water valve) running again.
