I was trying to find the date of manufacture for my Speed Queen dryer; there seems to be a lack of info on SQ on the internet. The only site I found to be useful (appliance411.com) gave me a date of either Dec. 1975 or 1983. I could look up the sales receipts from our store, since I know we originally sold the dryer.

Model: HG5009W (my bad, I wrote "NG" on the label with a marker; need better glasses)
Serial: S874Z897 (appliance411 insists that the "Z" has to be a "2", but look at my picture)

Today was another very simple repair to the dryer. I replaced the front drum guides with pieces of Teflon. Not only was the job easy, it was free. I have a bunch of Teflon tubing scraps in the cellar.

I know that this repair is nothing to brag about, but with the heat and humidity outside, this job is about my limit to manual labor for today, even with the air conditioners running.

While I am no expert on dating a Speed Queen (wait, that doesn't sound right.... *cough*) if given the choice between '75 or '83, I would 1983 for 2 reasons.

1. I remember looking at a Speed Queen washer with a similer style control panel and it was from the 80's.   Especially with that 3 different shades of brown in/on the timer.

2. That design of data sticker became more common in the "80's" across the board. Printed, dot-matrix printing of the model / serial, stick on, etc.

Date search upodated!

We are constantly working on the Appliance411 appliance dating system. Since this message was originally posted last summer we have added several more Speed Queen/Huebsch date formulas.

Speed Queen's dating system used through the 1970's and 1980's (4 different ones!) are definitely unique from all the major appliance manufacturers. My thanks go out to the people at Speed Queen for their support and assistance. They conduct business like companies used to 'back in the day'.
