Hey guys looking at a Speed Queen set and need some information

Can anyone tell if this dryer is gas or electric?

What is the door for on top of the dryer?

What all am I getting into?

The dryer is gas. The door on top of the dryer is the gas valve/burner assembly. My grandparents had that washer with the matching gas dryer. I say go get them and if something doesn’t work out I’d take them off your hands.

Thanks!

I thought the dryer seemed to be gas but I have no experience with speed queens at all. Gas works better for my needs anyway. The seller did not know only knew that the dryer plugs into the wall.

Do these dryers have a standing pilot light?

Also where is the lint clean out on the dryer?

Do the solid tub washer have any sort of lint filter?

Also worried about the washer not being the times fill unit as I have read that speed Queen had a lot of problems with their water level system in those days

SQ Timed fill vs. Metered fill

This particular washer does have a metered fill, vs. the majority of solid tub SQ washers being timed fill. A separate tank is filled during the fill of the main wash tub and will activate agitation once the wash level setting is satisfied within the smaller tank.

No lint filter on the washer, unless you find the one that fits over the top of the agitator, but to be honest it is mostly a gimmick, if comparing to a GE Filter Flo or a Maytag with the center column filter.

The dryer has a lint filter screen mounted within the door. The dryer does not a standing pilot system.

Thanks so much guys. I’m planning on getting them this week if I can track down a truck and some help. I’m sure they are very heavy!

Are there any common things that always go wrong that I should watch out for?

The reversing motor models are fairly decent in terms of reliability, when compared to the earlier solenoid driven models. The shifter fork assembly and brake can be somewhat troublesome, so hopefully everything works fine. The pump may need a little bit of love. If there are issues with either the problems will surface during a dry test.

The rollers on the dryers can get flat spots but thankfully the rollers are still fairly plentiful. Otherwise, most of the dryer seals are starting to get more difficult to find.

Here's a link to the full restoration I did of both a '67 SQ washer and dryer a few years ago. The thread should give you a good foundation of how both are built/work.

Still trying to get these

I am still trying to make plans to go get these machines. I really want them and do not want to pass them up. However the seller has become somewhat difficult to deal with and does not seem to understand that it is not easy to play a 5 hour round trip to come get them without having a truck or van.

Is there anyone on here close to Hamburg, NY that could possibly go meet with her and look at/get them for me till I get arrangement up there?

Don’t know what happened.

Seller no longer responds to this ad from Facebook where these machines are listed. Number she gave me never is answered and texts are left ignored to the number.
I am kinda bummed out because this has been on my list for a while and I was looking forward to these machines.
Anyone have a set for sale like this?
If anyone sees anything please keep me in mind.
