SQ FL purchase shout out

I just wanted to thank all you regular contributors for letting me in here and eavesdrop on all your private conversations about washing machines. Please accept my apologies for my screen name - it was late and I was tired when I signed up and there was no imagination left in me.

A little over two months ago my 26 yo WP TL (26 years of uninterrupted service BTW) motor gave out so I started researching laundry machines online and came across AW. For me this site was the best source of information as all of you are not only passionate about our everyday appliances but the contributions made here don't degrade into sandbox pissing matches. It's always respectful and I really value that.

Anyhoo - I've ordered the SQ FL AFNE9 and it will be delivered this Saturday. The price was a little tough to swallow since my pair of WP machines cost a total of $946 (Nov. 1989) and the SQ washer alone was $1,426 OTD. Ouch!
My plan is once I know I'm satisfied with the washer, I will replace the old dryer with the matching SQ one.

So thank you Combo 52, Laundress, Mrb627, Washman, Frigilux, mtn1584 and many others.
Thanks to all YOUR enthusiasm, I'm can't wait for Saturday!

If its any comfort your $946 in 1989 is equivalent to $1824.00 today.

Don't forget a FL works very differently to a TL so just leave it do its thing once the initial fascination has passed, I am sure you will have many other more interesting things to do than hanging around waiting for a washer. It will probably take longer but on the other hand you will probably find your clothes last a lot longer too.

I wish you at least as many years of satisfaction with your new machine as you had with your old one. Enjoy in in long, good health

I don't have a SQ but I've been using a front loader for the past 19 years and what has been said is very true.  There is a learning curve...you have to un-learn all that you are used to with your laundry practices...however, once you get used to it you will definitely love it.  I hope it serves you well!

Having owned my set a little over a month now and can't get over how nice they are. You will love that washer. Few things can bring more happiness than seeing this when you look in your laundry room.

Steve: Congratulations on your new front-load purchase. While I chose Maytag in the end (internal water heater; larger capacity) SQ was definitely on my short list. I love the styling of the new line (as seen in Nick's photo above) and you've purchased a machine designed to be repaired, not junked, when problems do arise.

One thing to remember:

Commercial washers are designed to process laundry quickly and efficiently with no frills. The addition of cycle modifiers may be more pertinent. Not to worry though, your Queen will do a fine job and in much less time(and for decades longer)than her blingy, cheaped out domestic counterparts.

anything I should do to prep the soon-to-arrive SQ FL before I put it into service? Also, what is the service life of the SS braided supply hoses?

As for stainless steel braided hoses, John (combo52), who runs an appliance service business said there isn't much advantage to them; that it is better to get good quality rubber hoses.  I asked the installer to use a good quality hose when my Maytag arrived back in September and he installed braided stainless steel. Have never had them before. They look sharp, but they're spendy and I now doubt there's any benefit.  I always shut off the water faucets after the last load so have no real worries about hose failures/floods.

Your SQ will come with commercial grade rubber hoses. They should be fine. Replace at five year intervals, if inclined.

i wouldn't bother with braided hoses.

The Queen has arrived! I did pick up a new set of braided hoses but after seeing what others had to say about that, I will be returning them. The hoses that came with the SQ look to be pretty robust.

My first task for the day though is mow the lawn before it gets too hot (mid 90's today) then down to the nice cool basement to install the washer.

Isn't mowing the lawn better done during sunset? I thought my grandpa once mentioned that if you mow the lawn before noon, the intense sunshine and the open cuts of the grass cause bigger evaporation and thus strain your "lawn health".

Henene4 - If you saw my lawn...

I got the Queen installed. While I was leveling it I noticed a series of little dents along the front right edge on the top of the washer where it meets the plastic control panel bezel. It looks like something heavy was placed there. I called Abt (the store where I bought it) and we agreed to wait a few weeks to see if we need to replace it. Abt has a 30 day return policy if you wind up not liking the appliance so I thought it made sense to make sure I'm keeping the machine before fixing the cosmetic damage.

I was like a cat watching a mouse when I ran it empty with detergent - I pulled up a mud bucket and sat down to watch the 24 minute performance.

In regards to the return policy, I'm 99.99999% sure I'm keeping the machine but I do like the option.
