Indianapolis, That's Why.

When I was in Indianapolis a couple of years ago to speak at an Indiana Landmarks event, I was invited on a walking tour of an enclave of midcentury houses.

The state of preservation - and the quality of remodeling that had been done in cases where that was needed - was pretty amazing. Indianapolis is a very heritage-conscious town; there are many eras represented there, and they co-exist peacefully together, each well-preserved.

People there take care of what they've got. It was very nice to see.

P.S.: The house is not as unmolested as all that - there are Avocado majors in the kitchen, albeit well-installed and maintained. I'd also be willing to bet that the carpeting is hiding terrazzo flooring.

As large as that kitchen is....makes one wonder why they have the toaster oven sitting on top of the cooktop instead of somewhere along the counter.

Save the pink bathrooms!

there's even a website devoted to them!

I love the slanted glass front upper cabinets in the kitchen, a look that was briefly in vogue in the early to mid 50s. That house woas owned by someone with money AND taste, often mutually exclusive concepts.

ozzie- point taken it's a possibility...but...

When photographing a house for sale I would think you would want to take pictures that highlight the features of it, not detract from it.

Kitchen pics would show a nice clean kitchen, uncluttered, with nice looking appliances.

But, I could be mistaken.

My kind of home! Sweet, sweet, sweet. I have a modern home with every bell and whistle and the only thing I thing I like is the central built in vaccume cleaner. Otherwise, when I look it's not the home I grew up in. Probably why I like going to certain estate sales which take me back in time and an appreciation for things that were built right. Also there is that "I remember having that". I like the look of those old fireplaces that had original river rock that people didn't paint over or the green mop string carpet and the reel to reel tapes that my dad used to play. then you have the fake veneer wood paneling, and yes, real textured wall paper. GREAT house. Thanks for the pics!
