I love how they were still using the "Orthophonic" term in 1960.  That dates back to the late '20s when RCA pioneered the electrical recording process.   The Orthophonic record labels showed up in 1927, but the first Orthophonic recordings were made in 1926.  IIRC, the serial number of the first Orthophonic recording was 19623.  Anything prior to that was purely acoustic.

Some of those early electrical recordings are fun to listen to.  They just put a microphone out in front the the whole orchestra, which provided a concert hall echo effect.

The Forward Look

This always brings to mind America's sweetheart, Betty White as her show "Date With the Angels" had a record breaking deal with Plymouth as sponsor and they feature largely in both the opening and closing credits.

This show was not a success and although she does not say it outright it seems there was no chemistry with her co-star Bill Williams, chosen so the show "did not look like a warmed over version of Life With Elizabeth". It was also Betty White's last regular sitcom role until Sue Ann Nivens on the Mary Tyler Moore show.

I was always somewhat curious about the Louie Bridge the older lady who appears here and appears in several other episodes as well as appearing in Life With Elizabeth. Could not find out anything about her

Single-or a pair of microphones for stereo-NOW recording companies are rediscovering this instead of multiple mics and mixdown consoles-this "Cusinart" method DESTROYS the life and feel of the subject you are recording. The simple microponing preserves it!

I know it's complete heresy to those who restore these but I can't help but think how cool it would be to have that cabinet outfitted with an Amazon or Google AI listening device and be able to use it with streaming music via voice command.

It would be beautiful, retro and completely practical for everyday use in 2018.
