Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Peter,

They are idenitcal to the Danby units and made by Gorenje in Slovenia. Mediocre frontloaders - not as good as Bosch, Asko, AEG, Miele etc but a lot better than Indesit or Merloni-made FLs (Servis, Eurotech, the Asko combo etc).

I think "mediocre" is a bit harsh. While these machines don't have some of the optional features of high-end units, people in the US who have the Danby FL rave about them and think they're great. They do a good job, seem to be robust and reliable, and also have a 200-degree sanitary cycle, good for cold & flu season.

Actually mediocre isn't that harsh... on a scale of standard for European washers Gorenje here are still cheap & plasticky compared to many other manufacturers of washers you can get. There have been several issues in Europe too apparently, perhaps our good friend Louis could elaborate on this as he has provided me with links before. They are essentially a cheap frontloader here in the UK compared to other brands available, and the prices/flimsiness that I have seen compared to other FLs prove this, although they are still better machines then the likes of Indesit or Servis, but definitely not up there with the higher-quality machines such as Bosch, Zanussi, AEG, and definitely not Miele.

FWIW, all production of Bosch dryers have now been shifted to Gorenje, and the quality has noticeably dropped from since when all but the ultra BOL of Bosch dryers were German made. Also not everything can withstand a 95*C wash, so the benefits of a high-temp heater for cold & flu season isn't really applicable, otherwise you'd end up with faded & shrunk clothes.

Generaliasation

All depends on which machine you are talking about, the TOL Gorenje machines are selling very well according to my UK sales scource at a very upmarket London outlet.

He mentioned that they are seeing a radical shift of "Badge Power" from AEG & Miele, which have been the only sellers for years, to the tol Siemens & now Gorenje machines. This is being seen as "wanting something that Joe Bloggs doesnt have"

AND their machines offer a superb range of features, take a look at the website, if nothing else it shows simple demos of the products...

Happy Washing

Mike - totally forgot about those! Although I'm still very wary of the new ones, I never liked the cheap timer models equivalent to the Danby's/Summits in the US, haven;t seen the new range though so I reserve judgement on the new range.

Still not keen on the Gorenje-made Bosch dryers though, although still considerably better than the lieks of the White Knights they used to badge up for their BOL models :-).
