Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

A little more info would help.

For example, is this a machine that you've recently acquired and you've never seen it work, or was it working fine until this happened. The beaters are driven by a worm gear, so I wouldn't expect you to be able to rotate them by hand easily, but since I don't have one of these to play with yet I can't be sure. I can tell you that the beaters on my Mixmaster Junior(also driven by a worm gear)are very hard to turn by hand, and that's if you can get them to move at all. It's probably a bad idea to do it anyways.

Now that that's out of the way, the model 10 disassembles pretty easily for inspection, cleaning and lube, so I wouldn't hesitate to investigate this. Better safe than sorry.

I see. Unfortunately there's no way to prove that, so it's best to proceed as if it didn't. If you'd like to keep it instead of asking for a refund and shipping it back, there's a service manual for this model available for download on the Automatic Ephemera site, and that would be money well spent. I prefer not to do in depth maintenance on anything without the proper manuals if I can. Having them eliminates the guesswork.

Mechanically speaking these things are pretty simple, so if you're mechanically inclined at all you should be able to handle this. But if you do run into any issues that you're not sure how to resolve, folks on the blog are very helpful. Due to their robust design these machines have a well deserved reputation for durability, so with any luck you'll have it up and running again in no time.
