Robert, Gary, And I went to the warehouse today, and decided to get one of the machines going. We chose the Hotpoint with the magnificent Wonder Dial! Mark

THE FABOO WONDER DIAL!

This is the Wonder Dial. You can't see it in the photo, but the water temp buttons light up depending on which button is selected! Mark

That is a great looking

Machine! Wonderful "take care of business" Wonder Dial.
Are the temp lights colored? Are those little white rubber
bumpers on the bottom of the ag vanes? Love red agitation!
 
Very interesting washer-whats the white parts on the lower blades of the agitator?The agitator big vanes should really stir things up!!Also the agitator looks like one of those "spaceships" you would see in the early 1950's Sci-Fi-horror movies.Hotpoint made some really neat machines in the early days.Certainly wasn't a "builders brand" in those days.Seems like the early washer shown is rather upscale.
 
Very nice guys! These Hotpoints are very nice washers. Did you put the rubber finned agitator in there or did it come with it? The model I found like this came with a standard, straight vane - no fins. Perhaps the people who owned the one I found had replaced the agitator when the pointy little fins wore away.

First the Kelvinator, now the Hotpoint...what machine is next? At this rate, you'll have them all done in a few months and it will be time for a convention there! Thanks again for the pics!
 
Beautiful '56 Hotpoint

Wow great pictures you guys! I have one too that hopefully some day will be happily washing away. It's a rare machine as it is a high bred combo when Hoptpoint was changing their design away from the Beam machine towards their own design, but they still were using some Beam parts such as the agitator shaft and transmission.

Its nice to see one washing away!
 
Fabulous! First washer I ever saw as a small child. I was wondeing if this was the same model year with the spider clutch as the one Robert has been having so much trouble with. I hope to see this baby in action one day - perhaps at the next convention.

Spider Clutch

This machine has that famous spider clutch. The noises this machine makes is really interesting. It has a pump much like the Speed Queens and makes the same sounds that I really can't describe. (You'll just have to hear it for yourselves at the wash-in ..... as soon as the house is finished) The lighted buttons just light up clear without color. I don't know if they had different colors for the various water temps or not. If they did, I'll figure out a way to get them back to their original color. Since this machine is all porcelain, it cleaned up beautifully. The control panel needs a good going over and perhaps re-chroming. There is a warning sticker still on the machine about moving the machine and using the control panel for leveredge. Since in rechroming I would lose the sticker, I'm going to have to think about this one. The agitator is the original red agitator with the points on the ends of the paddles. Of course, the points are long gone but the agitation is still really good. Even with a full load of shop towels, we got really good rollover. Mark
 
HOTPOINT

Mark real cool hotpoint. The hotpoint was my first experience with washing machines. We didn't have a red adj - I think the red was reserved for the TOL models. I would love to take it for a spin.

GREAT pictures Mark...I didn't realize you had one of these!! Those solid-tub Hotpoints are one of my favorite machines...especially after using the '63 at the Convention! How's the washing action compared to the "long-neck"? Definitely better than the "form-over-function" Spiralator!

I'm glad to know that we have a working example of a "spider-clutch" machine as well...proves that it wasn't the most problematic design. With the machine Greg found, hopefully Robert's won't be too difficult to resurrect!! :)

And I happened to notice the "other" Hotpoint made of 100% recyclable plastic sitting where a vintage machine should be, next to the Coppertone dryer...we definitely need to prioritize! ;-)
