Had a visit today from a grand bunch of appliance buddies, Jon Danks from Birmingham arrived last night with his latest toy, the Hotpoint 1460 FilterFlow Twinny, and then we were joined by Rob, (Aquarious) & Paul (MatchBoxPaul) this morning...

A good time was had by all putting the washers through their paces, managed to get the Servis Compact 72 running its maiden wash....Ohh that noise is soo missing on the new machines!!!,The Hotpoint runs so smoothly after busting its pipe all over us last night, then after a lunch of Desperate Dan Cow Pie, (beef, onions carrots & potatoes in gray covered with a suet crust, followed by Robs Lemon Drizzle Sponge Cake) we hit the vac room, taking the Maytag Connie for a spin and perusing the Hoover & Hotpoint Appliance bibles as well as literature everyone had brought....

We where joined later By Alpha Dave, ( Dave runs the local appliance store Alpha Electrics) for a teatime chat with his own brand of appliance whit and humour....which basically means he tells it like it is, "Oh, that things the biggest load of **** that was ever made!!!LOl

All campers on their way home and I`m off to collapse in a heap after a grand old weekend....

Cheers you guys, you all made it a rather special one!!!!!!

Looks like a brilliant time was had by all!

Great to see a wash-in over here! Excellent news about the MK72 Mike, what was the matter with her? I hope you were a bad influence on those washer boys, introducing them to the delights of vacuum cleaners too hehehe. Are you gonna persuade Dave to sign up on here?

Jon - gotta love that t-shirt, I want one! Rob, nice to see you used your Chef for its intended purpose! Paul, are you trying to work out how to sneak a vintage washer past your housemates now?!?!

Great stuff anyway, here's to more UK appliance-ins in the future!

How do guys

Many, many thanks to Mike for arranging such a fantastic day. For ths first time in probably nearly twenty years I was able to release my pent up enthusiasm for washers and dryers (maybe vacs? we'll see) and enjoyed every minute of it. Great food as well.

Wonderful to finally meet people - Mike, John, Rob, Dave - of a like mind (cheers to Ty for putting up with it all too - sorry if mispelt).

When I wandered into the kitchen and saw a Supermatic (congrats John on the new acquisition - having just glanced at the list of your machines, you must have bloody big wardrobes!), a 3224 Keymatic and the Mk72 I couldn't wipe the smile from my face. Indeed, whenever I think of yesterday a massive smile reapplies itself to my face.

Hadn't touched a slanted Keymatic, or laid eyes on a Servis compact for soooo many years, it brought the memories flooding back (a fire damaged 3224 outside my god-mothers mums place, my god-mums 3226 in the cellar and rescuing a 3224 Keycard from a machine waiting its fate at the council tip when I was about twelve and my aunt/uncles Mk300 Compact - different style same size ..... and so on).

Thanks to John for assisting me in my first twin tub wash for, when did my neighbours move?, probably twenty three/four years!

Cheers for letting me raid your archives Mike - I will be putting the info gleened on the spreasheets and updating/correcting my own library as a result.

Truth be told, I didn't want to leave I was having such a great time. Hearing Alpha Dave's reminicenses was great - the way people looked at one another in silence when he casually dropped the word 'Selectamatic' into the conversation was classic!

I did get lost on the drive back - I am useless at directions and had to pull over twice to look at the map, but I didn't care. I had just had a superb day and nothing was going to ruin it.

Really sorry if this all sounds really slushy, but it is from the heart. Thanks to all who arranged and attended - I had a fantastic day and it is much appreciated.

Cheers
Paul
p.s unfortunately Simon, there is no hiding anything where I live, but if I were to stumble across a purple liberator, a matchbox, a selectamatic, a Keymatic, a Creda 10100 or similar, a Servis Compact, or anything really, waiting collection by the council or at the tip itself - I would make my excuses and it would come to live with me, if only temporarily.

Mike I too had a wonderful day! And yes a big thankyou to Ty for putting up with the merryment of us on track mind washer nuts. And to poor but ever so gorgeous Ella for putting up with noisy machines, jolly people and my non realisation I was stood in front of her water dish :) great food, great guys and great chat. Thankyou again Mike, to future happyness and happy washins! It was a great pleasure to meet you Paul and John, and I defo cant wait to meet you all again. Rob

Wash Time

Hi Bob, glad you enjoyed the pics, nothing like getting stuck into a pile of laundry and reminiscing about old machines/experiences/childhood times etc...it was great to talk with you on the phone during the vac convention wash-in at gregs...( just about to post all the pics, you need to see the pic of what was happening to Uni whilst I was talking with you...LOL)

Seamus, looks like I`ll be doing another one soon then...LOl, its a family & neighbours favourite, especially this autumnal time of year, it loads the calories but hey the washers n vacs work it off....hopefully..

Jon, The MK72 Compact was the "First" automatic that Servis made, a 9lb washload in a 22 in cabinet, its small but fully functional...AND the famous prog 5 at 40d, when at temp six mins of wash, we all fell about when we realised thats how it was back then....LOL

Simon, I picked the Servis up for a £5 after sharp eyed MatchBoxPaul posted about it, this machine was bought by a gent for his wife with matching dryer....it was wheeled to the sink and used with tap adaptors...on using the dryer shortly after the cat crept into it and well surfice to say his wife was so upset she got rid of the dryer and and didnt us the washer again....his wife carried on using a well battered Hoover single tub and frigidaire spinner, The empty hose had been replaced because when they pulled it out of the cupboard it was hardened and perrished, so a new plastic flexy hose was on it...so I though it had all been checked etc, plugged it in and promptly found out the sump gasket was totally ripped resulting in a clean floor...LOl

Alpha Dave isnt on line yet, am going to help him set up in a couple of weeks then show him the links to here, he will be a valuable asset with all the stories he has about appliance repair and use etc.. and the story of him using a Hoover Twinny is hilarious!!!

Hi Paul, really glad we finally all met, your face was indeed a pic when you walked into the kitchen, you didnt know what to look at first...lol I`m sure you`ll be slaving over those spreadsheets adding info etc...which is a huge boost to everyone else, just seeing all those timelines and details of each machine coming together, keep up the FAB work...need to plan a return trip for the Hoover Matchbox Fest!!!

Morning Rob, well wash-in number 2 under your belt, great to see your excitement and joy and meeting everyone else and the machines, your face was a pic as Jon showed you how the Servis Wringer worked, like you say, as young as you are, if you havnt seen one you wouldnt know....AND, many thanks for the delicious drizzle cake, yummy, just finished off the last piece... now just remember to find a space for those vacs!!!

Hi Toggs Steve, who would have thought washers would have had us flying all around the world for a wash in!! seems like yesterday we all met for the first time at the 2005 convention at Gregs!!! and what a Fab Time was had all all then...

Hello Darrel, the pie doesnt usually last long in the tray, glad you enjoyed the pics..I`m hoping soon I can get the keymatic vids done for you all to see and hear, where does the timego???

Cheers, Mike

Mike,
looks like you good folks had a great time. More of us will have to "cross the pond" to attend these great times. Keep up the fun!

A big hello to everyone.

It sounds like you all had a super day. It's so nice when we can get together. I remember loving the day I met up with Jon and Darren in Lincoln. It's such a shame we are not just down the road from each other. I would love to have people down to see my Electron, Hotpoint 18580 and WD62, Aqualtis and Miele. Unfortuately, I live in deepest rural Sussex so it's not always that easy. If however, anyone is in London, let me know! I would love to meet up with fellow washer addicts.

Take care

Rob

Great pictures Mike, it looks like you guys had a great time. That "pie" sure looked good! Thanks for sharing.

Wish the Concord still flew and I had a spare two grand

Could have been over in a few hours. I love Twinnies! How they seen to endure in the U.K. You've got Twinnie Heaven going on over there. Wonderful pix.

Omo In!

Mike it would be great to get Dave signed up here, im sure he has many many more stories to tell. Im still chuckleing over his Runcorn Antics. Classic. Yeah another wash in done, shame to say done and dusted really considerin I never really want any to end. It was a pleasure to whip up a cake, thinkin the next one should be pistachio now lol. Perhaps served with some Cassata? LOL! Gawd even the cakes are washer themed now :) Those wringer washers are just amazing John did a grand demo I somehow feel deprived in a way with my Mum only having automatics. I didnt realise the wringing was so effective or was that just cos it was Servis! Hehe :) talk soon. Rob
