Te hehehe... I know that he lives in NYC and he seems to be of great knowledge on all things apartment fied... Besides, i'd love to see him in the size 24 blue dress i found in the Kroger parking lot last week and one of maytag moms tierras (if they did not blow away with the top down in her rental mustang!)...

(duckz n runz)

Chad, SunRay appliances were another brand name when Amana appliances were part of Raytheon. Kinda like Caloric was also at the time.

hi Bob

my aunt had in the 70"s a caloric probably form the early sixties. 36 wide, and tall back splash with LIGHTS and some of the knobs were blue and some red for the timer and such it was always so striking to see it. Had timed appliance plugs and a temp control burner. when you menitoned caloric i hadnt thought of that cool old stove in years doubt they still have it. I think they purchased it used, but it was a helluva stove. nothing like the tin you see today.

Thanks Bob!

For some reason, i thought there was some stoves from back in the 1960's or 70's that rusted very quickly carrying this moniker?? Maybe i am wrong??

So this is an Amanaesque thing? Not bad, but i'd love to squeeze a new 24" Kenmore in there! Place the sink over to the far left with an under sink GE dishwasher and Voila! Oh well rents only $425 a month.. Not in the greatest of areas but it'll still do!

SunRay stove

In the early or mid sixties my folks got a SunRay gas stove to replace the worn-out, oven-controller-didn't-control Tappan. This was a SunRay Riviera, it had two ovens: a conventional one beneath the cooktop, and a smaller one above. It was a dark brown as was fashionable at that time. (matched the Frigidaire icebox) The dials looked just like the ones in the OP's photo. The upper oven pilot light kept it warm all the time, so it was a good staging area for cooked items which needed to be kept warm before serving. They used it for at least 20 years, and sold it with the house when they moved out.

My gas stove in the basement is the 20" (50cm) gas version of this stove, but with a Welbilt badge.

I resued it from the krusher, and scrubbed it back to service-able life.

I remeber Caloric's "Ultra-ray" (inverted "V") screen-mesh infra-red gas broiler, but not the SunRay name.

Easy on the name-calling, sir! *LOL*

~Toggs you're the apartment queen.
~Apartment Queen. Toggle, whats that all about?

Damn, I wish I knew. Yet another Monica, er moniker, for me.

~Besides, I'd love to see him in the size 24 blue dress I found in the Kroger parking lot last week.
Is that a dress or a tent? Thank you for thinking of me, but a size 8 or 10 suits me much better.

Kenny, I rmember seeing a history of Raytheon appliances once, it included the SunRay name, which I hadn't heard of until a former boss' house (built in early 1970s) had the built-in sunray wall oven.

The electric SunRay pictured above looks exaclty like it.

So it looks as if "Welbilt" and "SunRay" are indeed sisters under their mother, the "Gleenwood Range Co."

The towel rack mounted on the left side is my "optional accessory" The brown spots on the rear are rust not grease!

And the aluminum foil saves tons of elbow-grease and makes spills easy to clean up.

Covers various tubes, themostat and capillary tube, pilot gas feed line, etc.

[WARNING: DO NOT ever cover gas vents at the oven bottom or the gas oven vent (exhaust) at cooktop level with foil. Asphyxiation may occur. In AN ELECTRIC STOVE BE CAREFUL NOT TO HAVE FOIL TOUCH ELECTRICAL CONTACTS! Just like in a post to this site, or when doing a painting or other creative endeavor, when in doubt, leave it out!] End of sermon.

Premier is not the same company--it's Peerless-Premier from Belleville, Illinois. Caloric was from Topton, PA...they were the first gas self-cleaning oven back in about 1968 or so. They seemed to be the "deluxe" gas stove for the Northeast (like Tappan in the eastern Midwest, Magic Chef for the western Midwest and Okeefe/Merritt on the West coast).
