Hi guys is anyone in Oz a fan of the current Surf range, they have the most, unsual fragrances I have ever seen, Sushine Lemon&Bergamot, Lavender&Oriental Blossom, Tropical Flowers&Ylang,Ylang and a new one, Fresh Lime and Mint in the esential oils range and in the range called Twilight Sensations they have Vanilla&Black Orchid andJasmine&Black Gardenia.

The reason I ask is we are shopping tomorrow and Woolworths have a special buy on it, buy a 2kg box of powder and get another box for free.

I've always liked the scent of their front load powder - the normal stuff in the pink box...

...just make sure you get some basic oxygen bleach with enzymes to give it the equivilent cleaning power of OMO...

Thanks Chris

Thanks Chris, would Napisan Oxy-active be okay and do you happen to know if the old Fiesta powdered bleach is still around?

Fuuny I seem to be starting to search for my mother's old favourite products, hhmm if only Bio-Ad were still around

Bio-Ad

...OMG!

I was only thinking the other day that I would love that to be available to use with Surf...

RINSO and Bio-Ad were the 2 things, along with sunlight soap, that my mother used all the time....and then OMO with enzymes came out and Bio-Ad seemed to disappear...

Napisan would work, just remember if you're washing colours to be concious of the bleach effect...

I tend to buy Aldi's basic version...works well...

Rinso

Funny you say that Chris, my mother was always a Rinso fan as well, nothing else for her after it went off the market I think she went to Fab or Drive, but was never happy that her beloved Rinso disappeared.

I was able to get Fiesta today while shopping it now comes in similar container to Napisan so that should do the trick.

Seeing as though we are going down memory lane so to speak so you remember Bio-Joy? which was made by Wolsely Castle, who also had the Castle brand laundry powder, really nice clean lemon scent, also R.M.Gow's powder? basic white box with black writing, its actual name was "R.M. Gow's laundry detergent, powerful, hardworking washing powder that gives you real value for money." it lasted like this for a time and they re-formulated it by adding a high conmcentration of sodium perborate and it was a great powder, finally absorbed by Cogate-Palmolive who eventually eliminated it.

I don't remember Bio Joy, but I do remember Gow's....I know we had a later green box down the coast for a long time....

...the one I miss though is 'big box' OMO Matic....you know, old style 1 cup (or 3/4 in later years) formula...this used to get out collar grease better than new OMO, possibly because of the high amount of 'soap' in it....

Big box Omo

Yep big box Omo-matic and would I be right in suggesting you used it with a Hoover Zodiac 12 F.L?.

Bio-Joy was basically the same as Bio-Ad and the green Gow's box was the Colgate formulation after they took over it, actually a neighbour's ex-wife works at C.P.and she once mentioned to me that their formula Gow's was actually made up of all the leftover Cold Power, Spree and Fab after they had made up the batches of those, don't know how true was thoguh.

Yeah why not bring back the old big boxes of the various detergents and give we the consumer a choice about what we would like to buy.

Close....

My aunt had a Keymatic until 1983 and then a Zodiac 12 475. I had a Hoover Electra 550 from 1994...

I do have 3 x 1kg boxes of OMOmatic 1cup formula....every now and then I grab one out and have a whiff....it always reminds me of fresh sheets and is good for knocking 20yrs off my age!

Photo of Omo-matic

Hey Chris, if you can could you please post a photo of the big box Omo-matic, just for old times sake and so I too can feel 20 yesrs younger than my current 46. L.O.L. L.O.L.

"just make sure you get some basic oxygen bleach with enzymes to give it the equivilent cleaning power of OMO..."

I did a detergent swap with one of our Aussie members and got some Omo, among other things (Dynamo is my fave). I agree its an excellent detergent, but I don't see oxygen bleach listed as one of the ingredients.

Wouldn't it be more correct that you need to add some phosphates and enzymes to make Surf equivalent to Omo?

Technically, yes...well sort of...

All detergents here can't exceed 7.8gms of phosphate per dose (about 1 1/2 teaspoons)....most are about 1/2 - 1 teaspoon...

Given the environmental issues we have with phosphates in this country, it is far far easier and more responsible to do what I suggested....

Dynamo...

....is a good detergent, especially in powder form, but it can be a right pain to rinse out....and OMO, particularly the front load version, is THE BEST according to tests....

Dynamo

Hi Chris,

To be perfectly honest with you I have never tried Dynamo powder but I have tried the liquid form and yechh! horrible, thick and gluggy and I feel liquid Cold Power is the same, tell me is Omo liquid thick like these or thin like Surf?

Actually missed out on hte 2 for 1 special on the powdered Surf, we went to Franklins to shop instead and we got a bottle of liquid for $4.00, normally $7.99 it is the Sunshine fragrance

According to the label it is 3x concentrate with 3 surfactants for cleaning, so we shall see, also got a bottle of Fiesta soaker safe for both whites and colours and anti-bacterial,(seems Fiesta hasn't changed in all these years.) alos saw Calgon as well, didn't know that was still around.

Funny though this 1.4 litre size is only available at Franklins, not Woolies or Coles.
