Okay, so many of you know that I won an O&M stove for about $5 the other day. So yesterday The Hubby, my friend Todd and I went down to Mesa to pick up the stove (about a 30 minute drive from Phoenix). I paid the lady $5 and went on my merry way.

When I got home I took a good look at the stove. It isn't in horrible shape and wouldn't need too much work done to bring it back to perfect shape, but I would have to say that the overall body of the stove is not in a good condition as the one I currently have. The parts on the other hand are in great shape! I've already swapped out the griddle plate, the burner element that goes under the griddle plate, the four cast iron burners and two of the three grease pans.

I'm going to have to pull my stove out to look inside the oven and broiler to compare racks and stuff (the stove is behind the Kelvinator), but this stove has already paid for itself! Once I'm completely done swapping out parts, I'll be ready to re-sell the stove.

One thing I've noticed, and maybe you guys have an answer, is that my timer and clock seem to be different than the normal clocks and timers on O&M stoves.

All the O&M stoves I've seen have a clock with a white background and red lettering with three little white knobs on the chrome ring that goes around the clock. The knobs operate the timer, hour hand and something else. On my clock and timer, I'm missing the three white knobs. Instead I just have a single black knob in the ceter that operates the timer and sets the time on the clock. Also, the background on my stove is black with white lettering.

I'm curious to know why mine is different?

Here's a picture of my clock.

One thing to clear up, my clock has the same back plate and chrome ring with the numbers stamped into it that this other stove has, it's just the black back ground and knob set-up that is different.

So far I've never seen one like mine, though I'm sure there had to be more than one timer/clock made like mine.

Here's an example of a stove just like mine, but with the standard timer/clock.

O & M stove

Today a friend and I went Thrift Store/Antique shopping.
We saw it all...beehive Osters, Kitchenaid mixers, vintage toasters, all priced outrageously! I could not believe some of the prices some of these ppl were asking for this stuff.
Lo and Behold at one shop, there was a O & M stove, similar, but different than yours, BEG. My friend commented on the built in salt and pepper shakers on the top. Quote: Oh how cool is this? AT this point, I'm drooling profusely.
The owner of the "shop" wanted 350 smakeroos for it.
All the parts were with it. And from what I could tell, in pretty darn good shape. Is this a good price to pay for this? Although I have no space for this now, it sure is tempting to have something this pretty in the future. I really love the look of this stove.
A couple of the gas knobs wouldn't turn.
Leaving this shop, we went down a little ways where there was another little yard/sale and something had caught my eye earlier going into the little town. Turned out to be a Pan-American stove, smaller, in "ok" shape, and the wrong grates on top of it. The little mexican lady only wanted $50 for that.
Next time I'm taking the digital.

Carol who is now prowling for vintage everything.

$350 isn't bad, but I would definitely shop around some more for a better deal.

I got my original one for $175 and then this one ebay for $5. So if you're patient you can find one cheaper and in good condition or even better.

The white background clock with red lettering looks very much like the Telechron movement that was very popular in clock radios at the time. The face usually styled for it's specific application though. I have a few vacuum-tube clock radios with this style clock in them as well. The basis behind this clock is that you can set it to turn on the radio at a specific time, and it also has a "sleep" timer. Obviously, in a stove, it wouldn't be a sleep timer, but it would be a cooking timer, and instead of turning on a radio, you're turing on the oven!

The other clock with the black background does not look like it has quite the functionality as the red on white clock. It appears to only have a cooking timer on it, and does not have the automatic start option. Chances are the fancier clock was an option on those stoves or something

Take a look at this Telechron page for all sorts of neat looking clocks!

Update...shlepping around

Well I hit another flea market today, and couldn't believe my eyes, another O & M stove.
POS really, missing most of the knobs....not as nice as the one I found yesterday....
Get this....
The guy wanted $750.00 for it! He didn't like what I said next. And I won't post it here. :-)
BEG, you got yourself a bargin, WTG. My friend loved the stove we saw yesterday...I think I will go back and check it out in the future.
I just can't believe some of these prices people ask for their stuff....It's not like they paid an arm and a leg for it anyways!
I believe in giving a person a fair price, but paying for their bling bling, I will not. I do not have "Hello, I'm stupid and will give you full price for that" written on my head. I have edumucated mahsef in anteekin, fer pert neer 20 yeerz now.
I've got alot of really nice stuff either just given to me for free...or damn near free...it's hard to shake that mentality when I go flea marketing, etc...WANTING to spend money, but not pay the prices these goons ask for.
Anywho, I am determined to get one of these stoves now...
Damnit....if it kills me.
Thanks for the rant....I needed it.
