Electric Door Opener!

Does anyone know if other brands offered this during the 60's? I need to confirm a hunch I have.

Also, it's amazing how much the outer door of my '61 SS is like this '66 with the gentle curves along the edges. But an electric opener, don't that beat all!

Cory,

Congrats on the STUNNING Chrome Frigidaire Refrig! I seem to remember when my dad's company moved to a brand new warehouse in the early 70's there was a bottom freezer refrig with the automatic door opener, and I beleive it was stainless steel or chrome finish similar to yours. I don't remember ANY other brand with that auto door opener. I think there was a lighted button on the left curve of the door that you touched to open. I don't remember if it had a foot pedal also!

Sooo how cold is the beer??????????????

It was Samantha's favorite fridge too

And of course, that Frigidare was seen every week on "Bewitched", along with Samantha's Flair range and Jet Action washer-dryer pair. (Maybe that was because "Bewitched" was co-sponsored by Chevrolet, owned by General Motors--which also owned Frigidare at the time?)
I loved Elizabeth Montgomery when she twiched her nose. Or when she didn't!

Re: Westinghouse Refrigerator Auto-Door:

I have a long-time Friend from School and his Parent's had a Rounded-Shaped Cabinet Westinghouse Single-Door Refrigerator, with an Inside Pull-Down Freezer Door, that was similar to the ones used on the "I Love Lucy" Shows. It had a Rectangle Plastic Push-Button approx. of the size of an Index/Recipe Card. You pushed it and the Mechanism would open the Door. I asked my Friend and his Parent's if they ever had a Power-Outage, could they get the Door opened? They told me that it was not able to be opened, without the Electricity "OOPS" Designer Flaw!!!

I'm guessing if you really wanted to open the Door, you could ruin it by using a Crow-Bar to force it opened. Needless to say, they seemed to never have to go to that extreme, due to any Power-Outages.

The "Fridge" originally {naturally} was white and later on in the early 1960s my Friends Father decided to Re-Paint the Cabinet Coppertone, but without the Edge {Darker} Color.

Peace and Happiness, Steve
