My washer's lid switch broke at the part the lid inserts into. It exploded when my wife packed the washer too full and a backpack apparently caught on the the lid switch assembly and messed it up. If I make contact manually on what's left of the lid switch box then it works.
So this is my question. Can't I just take it out of the circuit and make it so the washer works with lid opened or closed?
This would be my plan: Unplug the machine, take out the switch assembly, cut the wires off, splice them together, and wrap in plenty of electrical tape to make it water tight.
Would it be better to solder the wires together? I have a decent iron.
OTOH... The part I was looking online for replacement includes all the wires that connect to the main control panel. I would have to take the washer half apart to fix it and spend $30. And if I just tried to use the new lid switch assembly box itself then I would still be doing my own amateur electrical rewiring.
But this washer is a beater I bought at a garage sale and it only needs to last another year or so before I can buy a brand new washing machine.
I just wanted to ask the experts if there's anything seriously wrong with my plan to rewire the washer to bypass the lid switch. Thank you
