And here's the end of THAT project
After struggling with the timer (I managed to get the machine to run intermittently but not consistently) I decided it was time to seek help with the timer. I suspected there were burnt or loose contacts, so I sent it to Turner's Timer Repair up here in Scarborough, Ontario.
My worst fear was confirmed - Turner's no longer work on electromechanical timers. A damn shame because just 2 years ago they were able to repair timers for my 57 GE and 56 Whirlpool dryers.
So, my 'dream machine' is just that. A pipe dream.. The upside is that I now have an intact cabinet with complete and well-operating lid mechanism. What will likely happen now is that the SU70T will become a 'display only' dishwasher in the loft area above the garage in Ogden - a restored, functional, but slightly leaky SU60S is up there now in a "GE Turquoise Display Kitchen" I built a few years ago. I'm thinking I can swap the pump/motor from the SU70 to the SU60 tub (in order to use the 'power shower') and hope the dishwasher mechanism itself will fully fit the SU70 cabinet and lid. I also happen to have an SU60R in Woodtone that I could now restore and use with the wonky SU60S cabinet and lid.
I've given up hope of finding a timer for the SU70T - it was such an unusual one.
Them's the breaks... Sadly as I am getting older, less strong, and with shaker hands, I'm giving up on more projects... The 50 Youngstown dishwasher, the 58 Westinghouse L110 Laundromat, and very likely next will be the 57 Hotpoint washer are all reminders of my failures and will be going away.
I should've taken up this hobby in my 20s!!
