Tesco and Unilever Dispute

Tesco has axed all 200 Unilever brands from it's stores, over a pricing dispute.

Of course, Tesco is the UKs largest grocery chain, and Unilever owns the much beloved Persil, Surf and Comfort.

And other well known stuff; Dove, PG Tips and Hellmans.

I am sure it's only temporary, but do you think it will hurt Unilever at all?

Forgot to add, of course Unilever are blaming Brexit for the price hike. Whereas an MP said Unilever are just using it as an excuse to hike prices.

I didn't have Unilever down for any of that caper to be honest.

It wont just be Unilever

Given what has happened to the pound over the last few weeks it can hardly be a surprise - of course that report was only to be expected given that it came from the Daily Mail. I dread to see how much we will be paying for petrol in the very near future.

But a heads up for those who use Persil Liquids - 60 wash bottles are half price ay £6.50 each in Tesco today. I think I saw 40 wash Persil powder at £5.50 - bargains!

I don't get why Tesco are in a huff about it, they already charge more for Unilever's laundry products as it is and now they claim to be concerned about passing on price rises to customers? Don't make me laugh!

Those big 60 wash bottles of Persil are normally £13 in there, but £10 at Sainsbury's. 40 and 25 wash bottles are £10 and £7 vs. £8 and £5.50 at Sainsbury's. Same with P&G stuff too, big bottles of Ariel/Bold/Fairy gel are £7.50 vs. £4 at Sainsbury's and powders, pods and liquids are a lot cheaper at Sainsbury's too. Someone is taking the p*ss with Tesco prices and it's probably not Unilever. You only have to look back at all the bad stuff that has come out about Tesco recently to see where the problem really lies.

You will not have any argument for me on anything you have stated - I only shop at Tesco (Metro) as it is handy to my office, otherwise I would not shop there at all

Yep agree, Tesco has always been on the higher side.

The most concerning thing is, all the other supermarket chains have said they will follow Tesco. So could potentially leave us without access to 200 brands. Tesco's are already running out of stock on a lot of Unilever stuff. The media (especially Daily Fail) are having a field day, already pitched outside the local Tesco's interviewing shoppers (and at other Tesco's arounf the country apparently).

Suppose to most emotive thing is, is that Unilever are saying this is Brexit that has caused this.

Seems like it's all over! It sounds like Unilever have had to cave in to Tesco to some degree and the BBC report mentions Asda have re-negotitated with them too. (They're the other supermarket that always claims to be cheap but really isn't!)

Like liamy1 said, it seems like they would've followed Tesco's lead if it hadn't been sorted out.

Have to agree with you, vacbear58 - I can only see more of this happening as the Pound continues to suffer, petrol, imported food, etc. is all going to go up in price.
