I'm taking a top vent Whirlpool gas dryer out of storage.

I have access to 120v electric so I can plug it in and do a basic run test. However, I do not have a natural gas supply to be able to see if the heater will fire up and produce heat.

Is there any way to test (or partially test) the gas heating operation without having it hooked to a natural gas supply line ?

I don't know of any but thought I'd double check with those that have more experience on the gas heat drying systems.

You can run the dryer and watch for the ignitor to glow. This method does not test the gas coils or the burner assembly.

Testing a whirlpool gas dryer with no gas available

It would be more helpful to have a model number I could give more Pacific advice.

You can run the dryer mechanically and see how it sounds, when you select from air fluff to heat you should hear a click from the solenoid on the gas valve.

As Dan mentioned if it’s a model you can take the lower panel off of you should see a glow from the igniter it should come on for about a minute and then shut off that would show you that the igniter and the flame sensor working, other than that you really need to connect it to gas.

You can also make sure the timer works by setting it on a time dry cycle.
