Thank you Gizmo! Hoover Pump Update

Hoover care package arrived late last week (posted another message under "Ping Gizmo), had have been that busy getting the new pump installed.

First let me say thank you again, not only for the pump but for the detailed installation instructions. Thankfully did have a set of hex keys (what girl doesn't?), and while it was easy getting the new pump's pulley off, mine was quite another matter. It took a while and a few squirts of WD-40 but finally got the darn thing off, the rest was as they say, a piece of cake. Next hardest part was getting the new pump aligned and to stay in place whilst the darn machine was on it's side. Removing the hoses wasn't hard as already had the special tool to remove the "bunny ears" clamps. Went out and purchased some screw clamps to replace them with, and the rest was easy.

Used the new hose you sent, and it fit well, though still won't reach my sink, so will have to add an extension. Am thinking silicone hose would work well, as I do not want a permanent long hose. That would make draining into the wash tub difficult.

New pump works a treat! No leaks and so far drains the tub really fast. Have only used test runs of one or two kettles full of water, but so far a vast improvement over my previous knackered pump. When the weather gets cooler and less humid will do a load or two in the Hoover twin tub for a full workout.

Again thank you so much for all the gifts! Am working on a little "care package" to return the favour and of course will refund the postage.

I'm glad it has worked out.

If you have to extend the hose further you could use polypipe fittings (for garden watering systems) for joiners. I'd guess 3/4 inch or 1 inch would fit?? You could take the hose in when shopping for them. If you have a long run to the sink and don't want to move the washer close to the sink when using it (the traditional method) then you could try this, using plastic irrigation fittings:
Cut the hose about six inches past the washing machine's outlet. fit a T piece. Fit a basic plastic tap to each outlet from the tee. one goes into the wash tub, the other goes via the hose to your sink.
When you want to save pumped water, open the tap to the tub and close the other.
When you want to drain the water, open the drain tap and close the other.
I am talking about the simple black plastic taps used for irrigation, you turn the knob in line with the hose for open or across the hose for shut. They should be a dollar or two each.

Don't clamp the connections, the hoses should be easily removable in case lint or whatever accumulates.

Oh, come on! What about the full retro experience? For full effect you should have wash water so hot it would remove skin from your hands, air temperature should be 100 degrees F in the shade, you should be dripping sweat into the wash tub, there should be several children underfoot, one crying and at least two more fighting. Mother-in-law watching critically, telling you how to do it PROPERLY (ie: her way).
Otherwise you're not really getting into it...

Weather has been so humid and damp this summer the AC runs more to dehumidify the air than cool. Almost to a one all my herb plants have died off or become baldy taken with fungal diseases. Basil, Thyme, Greek Oregano, all had to be chucked. Rosemary plants seem to be doing well, so all was not a total loss.

On another note think may have a small leak in the new pump, not sure. Did a small TT load today (rubber backed floor mat which cannot go into a front loader), and noticed a very small puddle right near the pump area. Cannot be sure if this was water from the pump or just water that some how got splashed down that way. Either way am not complaining as the the washer drained a full tub of water a treat today. Took about 1-2 minutes or less for all the water to go and the pump to start making the very distinct sound that says it is pulling mostly air.

As for longer drain hose, took the end of the newly installed hose you sent, and shoved it into the round part of my old Hoover drain hose. Was a tight enough fit and was able to more than reach the sink, so one less bell to answer on that front.
