Allen, this store is in Manhattan which I accidentally ran across leaving my car parked in middle village (between Chelsea and gay village). It's on Hudson ave near 12th St.
Place has been around for years. We knew of it from our days of living in the Village. It is like so many shops down there, if you didn't know you'd simply pass it by. However it is what makes walking around down there so wonderful, you never know what you'll find do you?
Sadly while the West Village and Chelsea for that matter historically were once filled with such small interesting shops, gentrification and the accompanying rising rents have pushed many to close.
Associated Food Markets/Morton Williams supermarkets carry a very large and decent stock of UK/EU foods in a special section but not cleaning or laundry products.
St. Patrick's Parade starts down on Fifth Avenue and goes north ending on East 86th Street. This is the route taken by most parades in Manhattan, the few exceptions include the Gay Pride which starts at CPS and goes *down* Fifth to Washington Square then turning towards the West Village.
The current well known "landmark" closest to where this shop is located would the High Line Park.
Is literally just around the corner. All you had to do was go to Hudson Street/(th Avenue and walk about a block south.
Again however as with so many small shops down there it can be hard to notice things. Also traffic both foot and otherwise has become almost unbearable with the takeoff of the "Meat Packing District" and High Line Park.
Methinks that is why the shop as started hanging Union Jack banners and sprucing up their window displays. So many small businesses in that area have closed due to rising rents and changing tastes.
I guess I also wasn't looking for a British shop, there were lots of things to explore. Will not go back to the Chelsea Pines Inn, it was a great place to stay, but it's not affordable, at least for me, anymore.
