According to The Complete Guide to Corning Ware & VISIONS Cookware, market research indicated that consumers preferred the decoration below called Wheat, but Blue Cornflower was ready to ship sooner, so that's what ended up in the stores first. Corning's impatience changed the also-ran into a kitchen icon that even World Kitchen, the successor maker of CorningWare, can't discontinue.

Wheat items occasionally show up at vendors like Classic Kitchens and More, and if I wasn't between jobs right now, I'd snap up a few. It gently hints at the Space Age heritage of Pyroceram with a touch of country whimsy that seems even more timeless than Blue Cornflower.

Looks blah and drab, but probably went with more Early American and Colonial color schemes (which I hated) than the brighter Blue Cornflower. Whenever I see or hear the word "corn," I think of our Greg. I have seen more of the wheat pattern on Pyrex than on the Pyroceram, but mostly in ads.

One of the reasons that the mid Atlantic coast is subsiding might the amount of Corning Ware John and I have amassed. If there is ever, G-d forbid, a post nuclear holocaust world, Corning Ware will probably be here with the cockroaches. It was so perfect for microwave cooking that discontinuing it can only be blamed on corporate stupidity. I wonder if they thought there was enough in the world that the existing supply would last til the end of time if passed down through the generations.[this post was last edited: 5/3/2011-13:35]

I am REALLLY wanting to find the wheat design now. I just brings up so many memories for some reason. I asked my grandmother of my great-grandmother had that and she said no. I've seen some of it for auction on ebay and a few other sites. It's popping up more and more now. Man what I would give for an entire set of that pattern. My Mom has the Blue-Cornflower.

These folks will fix ya right up. :)

We bought our American-made Vitro dinette chairs from them. As soon as I'm working again, we'll go back for a second pair.

That's one of the many sites I've seen. If I only had the money right now. Once I start working though, it's on. Thanks for the link though, it took me a lot of searching to find it the first time.
