Fall leaves

Peter,

Up I-85 passed the Mall of GA near Chatuea Elan where I live the leaves look absoultely beautiful.

I think it is the best fall colors we've had in some years.

Fall in GA is great!

Those are nice pictures, Peter! It looks much nicer than the dreary wet weather we're having in Portland today. It's noon here and it looks like the sun already set.

It's Leaf Cleaning Time Here

Beautiful Pictures Peter! I love fall, our leaves looked like that about 2 1/2 weeks ago, now they are about 75 to 80% down, with the last of the leaves on the late trees coming down by next week. Today is the second day of city leaf cleaning where they come through and sweep and suck up millions and millions of leaves off the city streets, so parking is particular hard in many neighborhoods today. When I went home over lunch there were 7 foot high mountains of leaves on Portland Avenue waiting for the big vacuum machines to come by and gather up.

In this town they don't have the vacuum sucker trucks. You have to bag your leaves in clear plastic only leaf bags and they pick them up once a week. Last I looked the house we just bought had about 12 gargantuan bags at the curb and that's less than many others.

Peter------

BTW there is no such thing as a "Home Depot Expo".

It is the "Expo Design Center" that just so happens to be a Home Depot Company.
Just had to get that name right!

The leaves really do look pretty---if a bit late turning this year.

It got so hot and dry this summer----my pecan trees did not "put out" this year. Oh, there were a few green ones, but the tree rats nabbed those.

Nice shot of the Space Needle. Looks like a "sunny" day in Seattle.

Thanks for the photos guys!

35 degrees out here tonight

Most of the trees are now bare, save for the maple thats between my house and the neighbors, its a blaze of gold!
My neighborhood is all association maintaned, they'd been picking up the leaves pretty regularly.
This is my least favorite time of year, I wish it was warm out again!

No leaf sucker here either. I think it is a shame that the older residents have to buy they bags, and then haul them to the street. Years ago we had those trucks in town. It was much easier to just rake the leaves to the curb and let the town pick them up. It is funny, but the surrounding towns still do that truck method.

Those fall colors..........

Springfield has special leaf collections. The leaves must be in paper bags, or loosely stuffed in barrels. I have a lot of trees in a small yard, so I use a leaf chopper-upper, which works great. Makes good compost for succeeding years. The pile of shredded leaves turns to dirt. The kids love to dig in this pile and find loads of worms. The shredder only works efficiently if the leaves are dry, so I have to plan according to the weather.

Falling Leaves (Mall of Georgia)

I must agree this week has been awfully beatiful with the leaf change. Although, I think our weekend cold snap may be the end of it here in NE Georgia. I live one exit south of seeitrun2006 at Hamilton Mill Road. Small world huh?

Fred.. what kind of leaf shredder do you have? I looked everywhere around town for one and couldn't find anything but those big chipper/shredders geared more for big branches. I know Sears or someone used to sell small electric ones but even they don't have them anymore. Mom wouldn't mind one because she has lots of bushes/tree's and is big on composting and the house we're buying is an oak forest

I have a Sears Craftsman 5HP chipper/shredder, gasoline-powered. About the size of a snowblower, actually. You stuff leaves into the hopper, and there is also a chute for small branches, up to about 1 inch diameter. I've had it for a few years, runs without problem (along as the leaves are dry and unfrozen), but I don't know what is currently available in the stores. Sometimes it seems like extra work, but it really is worth having.

Shoot! I have a Toro 5hp mulcher. Pulverize the leaves and leave them there to decompose over the winter. If the leaf mulch is too thick, then put on the bagger, suck it all up and make a pile in the back corner of the yard.

Ok I know the ones you mean. The one I remember seeing though was about the size and shape of a garbage can on legs. You dump the leaves up top and they came shredded out the bottom into a bag or box. Not to say it worked well because I don't know..probably not since you don't see them anymore.

HI everyone, Fall has fallen in central Illinois. Most of the trees are naked now for winter. I am in a small village of 900 people and we can "burn" here. I burn alright! I hate all the burning leaves especially when the wind is from the southwest and the neighbor across the street burns his leaves and the smoke comes right into my house. (How is that for a run-on sentence)? If he ever says anything to me about loud pipe organ music, I am ready for him. lol
My 1978 Kirby has the optional leaf sucking attachment; works great too right along with the optional riding attachment. What won't those folks at Kirby think of next? lol Have fun.
