Hi guys :-)

Well, earlier today Darren (newwave1) and I met up at a launderette down the road from me for Lincoln's first ever wash in. As some of you probably already now, the launderette down the road from where I live has 30-something year old machines (although unfortunately the old Duplex machines were replaced by 30lb Ipsos 1 or 2 years ago). However, 4 Schulthess 6kg machines (in avocado green, dating from 1/72 according to the rating plate) still exist, as do 2 Primus baby-blue washers also from the 70s (the same as the old yellow ones in EastEnders before 1996 or so, when the launderette on EastEnders had a makeover).

Anyhoos, we met up about 11ish at the launderette, and set our sights on 2 Schulthess washers. In avocado green - mmmm! Coins in, Ariel Colour added to pre-wash and mainwash dispensers and off we were going - coloureds in my machine and whites in Darren's. 2 one pound coins and 2 20 pence coins in each machine and away we were going :-).

I must say that these machines are very very very very dramatic. They are absolutely great to watch - they use low water levels in the wash (IMO that's good as I love to see the load slap about in the suds), and very very high water levels in the rinse - about 3/4 up the door! Not just that but for the final spin the machine doesnt drain before it starts the spin :-).

Anyway, here are some pics - unfortunately no pics of the launderette as there were other people about nor any of Darren (although he makes an appearance in one fo the movies :-D), but fortunately none of me :-).

Darren - thank's for the great time, we shall have to meet up again when we're not so pressed for time! Maybe a wash-in using the Primus washers next time? :-).

Take care all,

Jon :-)

Pic no.1 - rather blurry picture of the Schulthess I was using

Both Schulthess'

My coloureds in the left hand side one, Darren's whites in the right. Control panel from left to right - disc rotates to show programme progress, little dial next to that is temperature selection (only Hot/Warm/Cold - no actual cycle selection), big Schulthess name badge with orange pilot light above it on the right, and the coin slot on the far right.

Spin-drain

And the oh-so-fabulous spin drain... I have a movie of this if anybody is interested :-). Glenn, you couldn't possible host a couple videos again for me please?

BTW by the time my camera decided to load a lot of the water had spun out, but you get the idea how splashy it is by the movie :-).

Hope you enjoyed the pics!

Jon :-)

Darren,

That was one amazing wash in wasn't it? It's a shame we can't invite the whole board - they'd love it there! But imagine the poor launderette attendant (if) they eve walked in and saw 50 grown men all crowding one little machine LOL. Boy could you feel the floor vibrating with the Schulthess spinning with all that water in the drum!!! Hopefully better Schulthess pics and some Primus pics too will be taken on Friday's wash-in!!!

Don,

Those Schulthess machines are solid, even more so than the newer Ipsos that sit right next to them. They are every Applianceviller's dream!!!

Take care all,

Was great to meet with you Darren!!

Jon :-)

Jon I'm so glad the two of y'all got to meet. I'm fascinated!!!!! with these machines. I know the big knob, by its colours, has to be water temperature knob. What's the little knob abouve it (like at 2 o'clock) as well as what appears to be some sort of opening or something below the door almost at the base. Details man, what all the selections say. Please!! Thank you in adavance Bob

Jon,
Thanks so much for the pictures!
Those are awesome looking machines. Look like they really mean business!
Sounds like you guys really had a great time!
Thanks for sharing the experence.
Brent

Amazing!

Jon,
I just watched the video!
These machines must be built like tanks!
I have never in my life seen a frontloader fill up that high for the last rinse, and then go right into the final spin while draining! That is awesome!
It is also cool to see that a washer this old have reverse tumble! This is such a cool machine!
How long is the final spin?
Also, does this company still make commercial front loaders? And if they do, is it still the same type of wash system cycle?
I would love to see one of these wash in person!
Thanks once again for the great video!
Brent

Guys,

Wonderful machines! Thanks for posting! How long is the complete wash programme and how long is the pre-wash and main wash? About how fast was the final spin, and how long did it take to dry? Need pics of the dryers there too!

Hey all!
brent-i hadnt seen anything like that until i paid this place a visit! i love it. i think were goin back tommorrow:D The final spin is 700rpm for about 4 mins i think. they do still make commerical ones i dont know if they wash the same though.jon may no but im not sure. all in all the cycle was just over 30minutes! rapid or wot! & those deep rinses are somethin else! its crazy seein it take off with so much water in it!

bob-to the left of the machine is the progress dial so u no where ur at and the little dial is for the temp hot/warm/cold..then on the right theres a pilot light. amazing machines!

Action Washers

Hi Guys

Welcome Darren, Looks like your whippin up a storm with those machines, look like they have seen lots of action, BUT plenty more life left in them!!!

How dry do the clothes feel after the 700 fling??do you use an extractor as well...and of course the dryers...

I can just imagine the reaction of all these "Dot Cottons" thinking what planet have we come from...oh to be a laundry repairman....

Nothing like a Russian laundry article I read where their vast tumbler machines are steam / presurized on the spin to force more water out...

I`ve posted a link to some machines here, the Keymatic is closer than you think??

Enjoy, Mike

Guys:

I'm ecstatic you both met!

We gotta get Jon away from the computer screen and the TV (Still a telly there?) screen as much as possible.. LOL LOL LOL

BTW how many rinses are there on the Schulthess?

and thanks ever so much for sharing all with us.

regards,
-Steve

Jon, Thanks so much for the fun video. Those are fantastic machines, very splashy and fun. Just wonder what it cost over there to do a load? Looks like you guys had fun. Looking forward to seeing pictures of your Friday get-together. Terry
