The Harvest Gold Ge Filter Flo has sprung a leak!

Hi guys My Ge Filter flo has sprung a leak and so far im unable to find it.. My first indication of a problem was a little Belt squeal Which I thought no biggie I'll replace the belt so when I went to do that I discovered some water dropping off the pump I had an extra one so I replaced it didnt help my problem Im thinking Tub boot? anyone else have any suggestions? If so let me know Id appreciate the Input ..Thanks in advance TIM

Tub boot would be my guess. Check it before it goes *pop*, cause it's really 'exciting' when that happens...

Probably the tub boot, although I have seen leaks where the outer tub is rusted through.

Have you taken a look at the outer tub yet? Many of our GE's suffered rust spots on the outer tub that turned into holes. I was forever telling my Mother to leave the lid open after she washed to let the machine dry out. She opened the lid to find a garter snake snoozing in the filter pan once and that was the end of that. In my Mother's world of logic, it was better to leave the lid down so she wouldn't see the snake until it was too late. It explains my whole life.

Austin (Westytoploader) knows a lot about all the leaks that can come from older Filter Flo's. There are several ports attached to the outer tub that can drip water if there is a rust or corrosion issue. I would start by running the machine with the back off and see where and when it leaks. Hopefully it is not the "splash" over from when it is starting to spin due to a bad top to tub seal.

Thanks for the input but I think I found the Problem

After some chatting with Jimmy aka filter-flo I decided to do a little diagnostic work and what I discovered was that It throws the water out the back of the tub when in spins...so it looks like its time for a new top tub seal now the next hoop I have to jump thru is just exactly where to get one at again...thanks for the input I really appreciate it.

Hi - The best thing I ever did on my filter flos was to get a roll of 1" wide weather stripping and put it on the underside of the top of the machine. If you lift the top up to investigate the seal - you will see that it has probably left a mark on the top of the machine where it has sat during its years of use. Wipe the surface clean and then follow the seal marks with weather stripping. When you press the machine top down again it will be noticably tighter but it is exactly what you need to solve the problem without the expense or headache of replacing that seal. I have done it on 3 leaky GEs and it works great, costs under 10.00 and is done in 5 mins! Also while you are under there - you SHOULD check for leaks or rust holes around the top of the tub just under the lip of the seal. Let us know how you make out!

Hi Matt Ive been Called worse than Don lol anyhow thanks for the info I think I'll try it. I had thought about running a bead of RTV along the top of the tub but I didnt want to end up gluing my lid down LOL...I'll Let ya know how I make out. Thanks again
