So the 142 came with some brethren, a nice set of matching Coppertone 1976 407's. Today I started looking them over, beginning with the washer. These came from the basement of the house with the 142, and seem to have been somewhat cared for. They both are supposed to be in non-working states though. The washer did not spin and the dryer doesn't heat. We'll see about that!

The washer is a CA407 Series 01 and it is gorgeous! It needed some cleaning, but other than that I could not find anything wrong with it. It pumped out fine and it was VERY quiet, smoother than MY 407 in my laundry room.

Open Up!

The baseplate was dry and was in great shape. There was some spotted rust starting, but nothing bad, and nothing else on the machine is indicative of being in a moist environment overall. No oil leaks and the carriage was super smooth and strong when agitating and spinning. I cleaned the baseplate and tub up a bit, but nothing was really needed here, just a good, clean original Tag.

Tub Scrub

I water tested the machine and cleaned some rags in it. Tide HE making that suds cake lol. The agitator was pretty nasty in the center, so I cleaned that up and let the filter soak overnight. I filmed a short video which I will post as well, nothing fancy just a short clip of the machine running.

Wax On

After cleaning the cabinet I applied a liberal coat of wax, which really made the Coppertone snap.

Here is the wax going on the front panel.

Coming Together

After the cleaning, testing and waxing I started piecing the machine back together. Just before putting the lid and front back on, the top has also been waxed and the agitator cleaned.

OnePiece

Here is the machine all back together and working before going back to the garage. Control panel really cleaned up, and the lid also turned out nice. Overall this is going to be a NICE looking set.

Final Product

For now this one is covered in the garage. I will start on the dryer next. I plan on moving this along, so if anyone is looking for a good MOL Coppertone Maytag set with a HOH dryer, let me know.
