Checked SSIWORLD and the "shred of the month" is---APPLIANCES-looks like they feed their Quad shredder a dishwasher and a dryer.Krushers again.

I shudder to think of someone falling in, I guess it would be over and fast...

I think it would be fun to feed one of those shredders cheapie Wal-Mart vacuums....one right after the other!

I guess I'd also question the logic of feeding one of these things a regular diet of appliances. Today its all about re-cycling and such, so it does not make alot of sense to just drop the whole thing on and mix the metal with insulation and plastic and who knows what else.

I loved seeing those old PC's getting chomped. Sorry Austin and other vintage pc lovers. YES I love them too but I don't like having to go fix ones that are still barely running just for them to die the next day.

Those pc's are prbably 386, 486, and some Pentium systems. Now if they chunked some IBM PC's and AT's or Commodore 64s down there I'd be upset.

In one of the SSI videos-they show them feeding it a concrete filled drum--gues a "destruct" test like putting wood blocks in the Vita-mix.The shredder used has a Hydrualic ram to FORCE the concrete barrel into the blades.Komar has two videos of their Auger compactor-shredders munching on a concrete drum and a "resin" filled one-interesting to watch.Show what and how tough those machines are Right bout getting caught in one-"DON'T EVEN THINK OF IT"You would be "mulched" pretty quick.I like the idea of giving one of those machines "Wally-world" vacs-be like someone eating potatoe chips. I did put a plastic vac in a compactor once-made a delightful "crunching" sound-was a beat up dirt Devil.On the recycling they have equipment to separate the metals from theplastics and the "chaff" Done with magnets-eddy magnets(for aluminum) and air devices for the plastics and chaff.Work on densities of the stuff-Look up the "Shred Tech" videos and watch the videos of "computer processing" and they show a glimpse of the filtering equipment.the shredder makers beleive its cheaper to grind up the units than dismantle them by hand.also the shredderer builders love to claim the units are good for destroying computers that handled classified material-likje gov't work.I have a GSA catalog of shredders for crushing and grinding up computers,hard drives,etc.Under some classified matereial handling regs-esp after 9-11 they are serious about shredding computers and hard drives that handled classified materials before disposal.

Med waste-It would be illegal to dispose of "guts" and similar body parts in that way-those have to be shipped or taken to a morticain for cremation.they run "sharps,containers that held dangerous body fluids,bedding,etc thru these-and I hope the items were stereilized in some manner before running them thru the shredder-it would be illegal and dangerous to process those items unless they were sterilized.I wonder in some of those shred videos when they show someone pawing thru the clippings discharged from the shredder-would you want to paw thru that unless it was stereilized before shredding?
