I have several washing machines all bar one are between 20 and 30 years old, I have one thats my daily driver thats only 2 years old.
The older machines use a horrifying amount of electricity and water and I love to use them.
The modern one is very economic.

I thort this video was thort provocing.

I don't understand why an older machine would use a horrifyingly greater amount of electricity if set for the same wash temperature as a modern machine. Sure, maybe a slightly greater amount of energy if it filled a bit higher for the wash, but if both machines are tumbler-type washers and we are not comparing tumbler versus a 16 gallon fill top loader, it would seem that the older machines would not be that much more costly to use. What factor am I not seeing with the electricity use?

comparison

The 5kg front loding Hotpoint is rated at 2.4KW.

2kw heating 400w motor.

The 11kg front loading LG rated at 1.6KW. ( although I do not know what the division is)

I did a 60c was in both at the same time filling with cold water. The LG finnished a good 40 mins befor the Hotpoint.

So bigger machine moor washing did it in less time so my assumption is considerably less electricity is used, along with a lott less water too.
