Tide Hygienic Clean Heavy Duty-Free & Clear Liquid - Discontinued

There they go again. P&G just can't help themselves can they? Always messing about with laundry products, and usually it's "free and clear" versions.

"Tide Hygienic Clean Heavy Duty-Free & Clear liquid was discontinued in April 2025, then it was restaged to our new product called Tide Free & Gentle Odor Refresh. Tide Free & Gentle Odor Refresh Liquid is a restage of Tide Hygienic Clean Heavy Duty-Free Liquid with the addition of PA35 for improved malodor benefit."

It seems that P&G also discontinued Tide Free and Gentle Ultra Stain Release Liquid. That was only available at Target - at least around here, but haven't seen that in a long time. Would occasionally use that on my sister's stuff, but generally don't use liquids much anyway. P&G loves to play games- introduce this, get rid of that, probably just to ensure their flagship brand keeps consumer interest. After all, newer is always better, right? (LOL)....

I noticed the same, messaged them, and was inform that the exact same product plus another ingredient for odor removal would be replacing it, just as you did. The rebranding might actually lead to more sales over “hygienic clean” but ultimately is victim to P$Gs marketing. Certainly not the worst loss they have caused within recent times.

Here's what one does not understand

If Tide "Hygienically Clean" removes 10x more soils or whatever from wash, what does that say about the other dozen or so versions of Tide laundry detergent? Does using regular Tide mean one's wash isn't totally clean?

You are aware that advertising is more about make believe and selling things than about facts? LOL

I don`t think anyone actually believes or expects a 10x detergent to be 10 times stronger, better or whatever than their standard version.

I'm slightly disappointed this was discontinued. I began using it several months ago and found this formula cleaned extremely well, better than their free and gentle version.

Supposedly the new formula is the same with few added ingredients to prevent bad odors. With that change comes a price increase as you get less loads per bottle vs. the old formula.

Actually was going down rabbit hole with Google doing bit of research on Tide HC10x. Local discount shop had some in stock and as one's stash of Tide F&C liquid is running out wanted to see what there was about the stuff.

Reddit thread came up in Google, so there you are then.

Admittedly, this isn't the first rebranding of this product. Initially it was Tide plus Downy FREE, which was great with the addition of Cellulase, and cleaned fairly well. But Tide HC F&G added Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate for better degreasing, soil removal, and performance improvement in hard water, which certainly was a nice upgrade. Now the Odor Refresh version adds the methyl di-t-butyl hydroxyhydrocinnamate for odor removal. Though standard Tide F&G does not contain any of these. I still am willing to pay the additional price for this version, as it does clean well.

Performance

I can vouch that the hygienic formula is excellent at cooking grease and body oil removal.

If this is what they're doing to the Tide Hygienic Clean Free and Gentle version, what are the chances they will ruin the normal version?

I have pondered the same thing. There's no bleach alternative in the formula. This is misleading.

My sister has used Tide Free & Clear detergent for years, as her husband has skin sensitivities. I noticed last time I was there she had the Hygienic Clean version. Will let her know about the rebranding.
