...and some light reading with your new Amana Radarange!

The mug was part of a '10 Year Warranty' sweepstakes. Can you imagine that on a kitchen small today? And the paperback is one I haven't seen before (similar to one Maytag put out for their laundry equipment) that's full of interesting cooking facts and recipes. Origination is Amana, Iowa 1975.

I guess I'll have to try cooking a Thanksgiving turkey in the 4D. Perfection in only 7 minutes/lb! -C

I actually cooked a small turkey in the microwave back in college. It was the only oven I had. The meat itself was tasty, but the skin...not so much. Brushing it with Kitchen Bouquet, as prescribed, only made it look weirder.

And no, can't imagine a microwave with a 10-year warranty these days. Of course, market saturation for the product was still years away. A company would be writing its own obituary if it offered a warranty like that on microwaves today.
 
I had a small Amana brand (really a Hitachi) 700 watt microwave in the 80's. I recall cooking a chicken in it at one point, using a glass casserole dish. Similar result, meat was ok, the skin looked quite unappetizing. It finally died around 1998, and was replaced by a big Kenmore, which is still going strong. Also use a Panasonic Genius, so I guess the longevity of either is extended by the shared use. But I'm prepared to see one or both of them suddenly stop working one day due to magnetron burn-out. C'est la vie.

 

Prime use for these things is to reheat leftovers, heat up frozen entrees, and make popcorn. The Kenmore is superior at popcorn, more even cooking, the Panasonic superior at defrosting, gentle reheating, keeping things warm.
