1 1925? GE 75425 16" With an S-wire cage and brass blades (still undergoing restoration)
1 1952? small Vornado (also undergoing a more thorough restoration)
1 1950s Handybreeze
1 1950s Dehil

Mixers:
1946 Hamilton Beach G. (My grandmother received this as a wedding present in 1946, although they were married in 1945.)
Early 1960s? Dormeyer chrome stand mixer. (from my other grandparents)

Other stuff:
Early 1950s Westinghouse Roaster (from grandparents)
1976? Electrolux Super J (But with a 50th anniversary PN-2 power nozzle.
Sunbeam Coffeemaster C30C
1937 Roadmaster bicycle (awaiting restoration, in peaces)
1952 Raleigh Dawn Tourist bicycle in use, but incomplete, and in need of restoration (Sturmey-Archer AG rear 3-speed hub with generator, and rod breaks)
1960s Oster Beehive blender (needs a new blade assembly)
Grandparents Kirby Dual Sanatronic 50 vacuum cleaner

Exact replica of a WE candlestick telephone with an added rotary dial.

About 30 radios: (here are the highlights)
1937 GE art deco table model (needs restoration)
1937 Philco cathedral model 37-60, restored
1953 Westinghouse AM/FM table radio (plastic)
1939 Philco bakelite table radio
1964 Zenith table AM/FM/AFC
1950s RCA console hi-fi record player (no radio)
1949? Zenith AM/FM plastic table radio (from grandparents)
1941 Majestic floor model radio
1940 Philco table radio (wood)
Late 1940s Philco Transitone table radio AM (plastic)
Etc. etc. etc.

The pride and joy:
1987 Volvo 240 GL sedan with all options it can hold.
145,XXX miles.
Tan leather (needs to be reupholstered)
Dark green/blue paint (needs to be repainted)
AC (has been converted to R134a, but now needs a new compressor.
Original AM/FA radio with tape deck and optional rear speakers with separate fader knob.
Original equalizer (It’s a Volvo part but the dealer here has never seen one before)
Crusie control (it was a “dealer added accessory” so I got the parts and instructions and added it)
Front seat center arm-rest
Power antenna
Exterior ambient temperature gauge (It’s another unheard of Volvo part!)
Tachometer
Sunroof (most are hand-cranked, mine is electric!)
Automatic transmission (darn!)
B230F engine (2.32 liter, 4 cylinder, 114 horsepower) It’s slow, VERY slow, but reliable. It’s the Maytag of engines, without the power and speed.
25-spoke alloy wheels that look great, but are a pain to clean
Original fog lights (with original “Volvo” covers)
Headrest padded inserts
Rear window defrost

I recently rebuilt the front suspension and installed a full set of Michelin Hydroedge tires. Now the handling is actually impressive! 240s are known for being slow and balky, and while mine is still slow, getting the suspension back to factory specs and putting on nice tires has made it handle like a completely different car. The handling is now surprisingly crisp and very precise, every bit as good as a new car, if not better than most.

I have had the Volvo since June of 1999 and since the odometer read 115,XXX miles. (I don’t get out much). If they still made them, I would buy one without so much as a test drive. Now, however, the quality has gone down the toilet, their designs aren’t attractive, and they turned the V70 (a perfectly good station wagon) into an SUV! After trying a Saab (did you know Saab is a 4-letter word?) my brand loyalty for newer cars has switched to Honda (I want an Element, after all, it can hold large appliances!). I love my Volvo, and it is still my primary car. I love it more and more each time I drive it.

I think that's all for now, what do y'all have?
Dave

Hi Dave, Wow that Volvo is sure loaded out with all the accessories, thats a great color combo.I love a tan interior, and what low mileage, its barely broken in, it would be hard to find another one with that low mileage,I have the dealer accessory book and it shows the stereo equalizer, ambient temp. gauge, power sunroof option, center armrest, padded headrests, cruise control, tachometer, even a power trunk release and much more,I can download some pics but my computer is so slow it would take a while, but I will post some,I've had Volvo's since I started driving in 1980,my first one was a '70 140 wagon,it had dual carbs.and a four speed trans.add on a/c that worked great,.hunter green with tan interior, they were kinda primative back then,I went to work at a Volvo dealer in '82,the new 240's were very pricy,I remember when the first 7 series hit the lot,I have the window sticker somewhere from our '88 240 and it was pretty expensive for it's time, this wasn't my parents favorite choice of car but glad I liked Volvos as a teenager for the safety factor, but I just liked Volvos,I had VW's and even A Camaro Z 28,but as a teenager you just know what you like and safety was not in mind, now when I drive my 240 I know it's a little tank and what ever cheap car on the road will not hurt me much. more on appliances later and pics. It's a 67 Zenith, not a 64... we've talked about this. I have the same one.

It is an impressive collection, I've seen most of it personally. Dave has a good eye for things and its rare he picks something that's a p.o.s., though you could argue on the Volvo! lol! Chevy rules, volvo druels (running joke).

My 79 Caprice Classic

77k and still going strong. Though she needs some cosmetic work.

I'm sure there is more that I'll add later.

Hi Dave,I have the same problem sometimes,I had to retake the radios page because I took it sideways and rotated it and it changed the size somehow,You and ClassicCaprice really have a nice collection and have done your research on the exact years,I'll post some pics but probably can't tell you the exact year of anything, except the Volvo,I have a Grundig Majestic floor radio from the fiftys,I've had it for many years, but its made partially of pressboard, sadly the humidity has gotten to it and it is crumbling to pieces. A 240, now THAT is a real Volvo.

I had a 1998 S70 that I mourn to this day. But a 240 is a real Volvo.

Volvo accessories.

I don't see my radio pictured, but that is my equalizer. I am surprised to see an ambient temp. gauge in Fahrenheit. Mine is Fahrenheit, but I have never seen another. I do see ambient temperature gauges for 240s on ebay from time to time, but they are always in Celsius. I once saw a picture of an ambient temperature gauge with a digital readout in a Volvo accessory book, but I have never seen one in person.

I like how on the dial-gauge, there is a short needle projecting from a disk with a slot cut in it. The reason for the slot is because there is a red LED which is always on below 32 degrees. When the temperature gets within a few degrees of freezing (on either side) the slot is over the LED. That little feature alerts drivers to the possibility of ice when they might not be accustomed to finding it.

One little feature to show Volvo used to care,
Dave

I can't take the picture any smaller, and I don't kn

A few months ago I've posted this neat tip and I not sure if anyone took it on, but here I go again.

Click on the link, on the right side in the middle of the page. download image resizer, this is Powertoys for Windows XP .
Once you've open set up and install, you can go to your photo file and right click to rezize photos from small, medium or large so you will be able to post on this message board.

Tell me if it works.

Hi Dave, I just thought about the website Brickboard.com,it is a Volvo website, just thought you would like to know about it if you don't already,Vacuumland is really clickish and rude,so if you need any advice for the d-50 you can post it here,I worked for a Kirby dealer doing repairs for a few years, would like to start a website for all old appliances and not have to deal with ##########. Volvos and Kirbys.

I do know of Brickboard.com, although Turbobricks can be a bit more fun. I have also found many products from IPD (www.ipdusa.com) to be good.
My 2 dream Volvos are:
#1: 1975 164e in white with a blue cloth interior with a sunroof, no foglights (I love the horn grills) and the M410 manual transmission (4-speed with an overdrive switch).
#2: 1985 240 Turbo station wagon with M46 manual transmission (4 speed with overdrive switch), a cloth interior, and the optional removable 3rd row seat. (So I can haul a washing machine, very very fast). Also with an intercooler (only offered as standard in 1985).

I know Vacuumland has had some issues in the past with some of its members so I am trying to tread lightly. Thus far things seem to be going well. My biggest obstacle is the last vacuum shop that worked on my grandparents' Kirby. They screwed up the belt lifter, removed the sani-emptor, the original fill tube, and the original style bag. If anyone has destroyed a good product needlessly, it was that repair-shop.
All these problems are compounded by my grandparents' unwillingness to spend money to repair the Kirby. It has been stored for at least 5 years because my grandmother discovered Wal-Mart. Her thoughts are "why fix it when I can buy a new one for the same price?" The fact that the new ones last less than 3 years (2 have died since the Kirby was stored) and they do a lousy job of vacuuming is irrelevant.
My grandparents bought a very good vacuum 40 years ago. It's not at all like them to buy disposable appliances.
They also have a Kenmore center-dial gas dryer (circa 1985), still going strong. They also have a GE FF, circa 1978?. The washer has 2 toggle switches, an extra rinse knob, and a 4-straight-vane (white?) agitator.

I also downloaded the photo resizing program. It is working well, thanks Mark. I'm trying to find or take some better Volvo pictures, if this ice storm would just go away already!

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave, Wow the Volvo 164e sure brings back some memories,In the early to mid 80's I had three,a '73 that was green and someone painted it brown, that was the fastest one,as they added smog stuff they reduced the horsepower, the next one was a '74 they did away with the vent windows that were troublesome because the latch was glued on,that one had a sunroof but was already rusting from being up north, the last one a '75 my favorite,it was dark green with tan leather, the '75 was the last year and only one with power indows, the switches were on the dash console but only for the front, the seats were like 240 seats, the early '75's had the small taillights, but the later models had larger ones like the 260 models that came out in '76,that inline 6 engine is great and will run forever, the Volvo 4 cyl. of that era were like a tractor engine,I owned a few of those too,the very first 240 came out in '75 and it had the old style engine in it then in '76 they came out with the overheadcam engine. my '89 240 is white with navy interior. I have a '75 164e showroom pamplet, here are 2 pics
