TOL GE in FLORIDA

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Thanks so much for the lead

I am bidding and hopefully I will be able to save it. It is a Filter Flo isn't it? Any idea of the year? Thanks Matthew..

~Shane

Hi Shane,

Good luck! It's definitely a Filter-Flo, and if I were to guess I'd say late-70's. The controls look very similar to my '77 Dispensall, except without the Mini-Quick toggleswitch, and possibly the added soak/pre-wash. All in all, it's a great machine. GEs aren't hard machines to work on (the excellent step-by-step repair manual comes up on eBay frequently), and a great 'first vintage machine'. Let us know if you need any help!

Austin

Thank you Austin!

I will certainly keep you updated. I hope I can win this!.. The owner emailed me and said it needs very minor cosmetic work. and was working just fine. No leaks..etc.
I will email you and let you know..

Take Care

Andrew, that is exactly just like the FF I bought in April, 1978. Same cycles on the dial in the same order (and the same cycle color shades). The only differencfe with mine was it had only 3-speed combos and not the separate wash & spin speed toggle switches. THAT's the model I would have preferred if it would have been available.

Matthew, techincally it's not the TOL. The TOL would have the 5 pre-programmed wash cycle buttons rather than toggle switches. It's right under the TOL.

Duhhh, ding ding ding

A friend of mine who moved to Dallas in the early 1980s, she bought this exact model about a year or 1.5 years after mine. There is one otehr difference than mine--the Perm Press cycle. Mine had the kenmore/whirlpool/Maytag kinda cool down--partial drain, fill back up and agitate. This one has a continuous spray rinse once the water level is "reset".

So this begs one to wonder if our Toggleswitch is a wash or spin speed Toggleswitch. *grin* Looks like a nice machine and Shane I hope you can get it!

Matthew, great to hear from you today, and nice to see your Los Angeles moniker next to your name. I'm looking forward to meeting you. :-)

So, Princess Shana Mae....does this mean that me and you are taking Joe's truck for a ride to Gainesville one weekend soon??????? Let me know, I have to prepare! Make sure you win the damned machine, if it needs any work, I can fix it for you. They're easy to work on.

Good Luck Shane!

I'm glad you are bidding on it - It'll be a great machine for many more years to come - fun to use and easy to work on - if you should need to that is. I've enjoyed my old GE's so much that I hate to see older models like this go to waste.

I'll keep an eye on it to see how you do.

Matthew

oh Scott.......

~if our Toggleswitch is a wash or spin speed Toggleswitch. *grin*

You spin me right round baby right round like a record baby.
Wouldn't you like to know? *WINK*

Matthew, great to see you posting!

I actually loved those types of switches on a GE, can you tell?

That could very well be a TOL. It's an early 80's model and by the late 70's GE had phased out its TOL "Programmed" washers. They made a brief reappearance in a 90's late Filter-flo model but then GE transformed itself into S--TTY Kenmore wannabee's and it was all over as far as I'm concerned.

1 Step down

There was a programmed model one above this ebay model - but this was TOL for me too, much more flexible. The books I have from 86 have the button-programmed Spotscrubber washers, which were usually the TOL through the end of the design. I think I remember Scott O. and I saw a programmed model with slanted control panel and membrane covered pushbuttons at a shop in Hastings a few years back - a 94 model. GE did get a little strange at the end, dropped the FF and quality took a nose-dive. I've seen many of these pre-95 machines with massive oil leaks.

FINALLY MY WASHER

After all these years of FF-ing, that is the exact same washer I had, all the way down to the deep fill cool-down. I notice this person washes in cold water too. But I had the big door version of the dryer, not this smaller one

I pick them up tonight!

One of my friend's daughters who is in school in WY needs a set for an apartment she and a friend are renting in May so I'll grab these, check them out - have a little fun with them and send them on to a new home. Price is right too!

Hopefully they won't need too much work - I'll post pics of them later tonight.
