About 2 years ago, I purchased a Maytag MVW7232HW1 top load washer. Two years later, the machine now sounds like a jet engine during the spin cycle. I contacted the technician and they told me it needs a transmission which they said would be $600 for them to repair. It’s 2 years old, so of course it’s out of warranty.
It does have a 10 year warranty, but ONLY on the motor and wash basket, not on the transmission. We can’t just change the bearings because they are sealed in the transmission. What a poor design, if the bearings were serviceable I could easily just buy a cheap bearing and fix my machine. I expected Maytag to be better. The old Maytags were some of the best units ever.
Whirlpool owns Maytag now, so that means the Whirlpool washing machines are the same thing just with a different name. I hear about Whirlpool washers that are constantly draining due to bad motherboards as well. Whirlpool and Maytag aren’t like what they used to be.
