TV in Minneapolis

I just found this on the Minneapolis Craigslist. I would love to have it. Unfortuneatly I'm not planning on going to Minnesota until September. Anyone willing to pick it up for me and hold it till I am there in Sept?

Great Seller

Cadman and I visited the seller yesterday to pick up other goodies he had for sale. I snapped some shots of the RCA in case you are interested Justin. The seller doesn't need to sell right away, so if you strike a deal with him I'm pretty certain he'd hold the RCA for you till September.

The RCA is cosmetically in pretty decent shape, minus the missing leg on the front left side. I guess a guy could swap one of the other legs to the front and have another one fabricated for the rear. Just a thought. Cory did mention that these aren't the most fun sets to work on...

BTW - this guy has been collecting TV's, ranges, and refrigerators from the 50's and 60's for quite some time, but is clearing out his collection. He had hundreds of fridges and ranges up until just a few years ago. He couldn't find buyers so he had most scrapped. Max is a great guy to deal with in case you’re interested in anything he has for sale.

That's a beautiful set.... It's a shame about the scrapping.  I know a few people on here who probably would have helped him out, if they had known.

Ben, thanks for shot #3.  That's the view I wanted to see.  Interesting (but understandable) that there's no protrusion for the CRT neck through the masonite panel.

 

I'm still trying to understand how the lovely lady in the evening gown would initiate the process of bringing the set upright.  There seems to be no particular place to grip the set so might the mechanism have some type of release that raises it partially into a position where a balance point is reached?

Hi Ralph,

These sets are actually spring loaded! After manually lifting the 'lid' and hinging it to the rear, you merely press and release the CRT 'box' and it unlatches to spring upright. Unfortunately, RCA cheaped out on the chassis. It's series string, PC boards and selenium rectifiers. Still a cool set, though!

Thanks Cory.  I presumed there was some sort of assist mechanism so most anyone in the household could bring the set into viewing position.  Spring-loaded makes perfect sense.

I've wanted one of those.

Sooo coool. Certainly a short-neck tube. The cheapened chassis design makes sense! Lower weight! Otherwise you'd probably need a garage-door spring to pop that unit up.
I love those novel designs. A rare piece indeed.
